Looks Like The Steam Linux Beta Is Almost Here

How do you feel about Valve’s plan to make a linux version of Steam? Maybe you think it’s great, or perhaps you think it’s completely unethical. Whatever your position, you’re going to get the chance to find out for real soon enough, because it looks like the Steam Linux beta is on the way.

PC GamesN have been sifting through the Steam Content Description Database, and they’ve discovered that Valve quietly slipped in a description for the beta sometime last night. Details are incredibly spares. The description just says “Sub ID 16549″, “Last Updated 2012-09-06 22:36:58″, “Name Steam Linux Beta”, and “Billing Type ProofOfPrepurchaseOnly”. But as PC GamesN points out, once it’s been added to the description, it’s as good as officially announced. Expect that announcement soon.

So what do you think, Game Fronters? Pro? Anti? Sound off in coments.

I don’t know why anyone would be against it, but are there a lot of games available for Linux?

I Think it would be good for everyone if Steam was on Linux: The platform would get more attention from the mainstream, game developers would be more willing to develop for the platform, and best of all: linux developers would get the sticks out of their asses and actually care about developing a powerful, flexible operating system for more than just hardcore nerds

If Linux ever wants to be a for everyone OS then Steam on Linux is a plus.

But will Steam on Linux help to actually finally get enough people to Linux to mean something?
