Lost Planet PS3 Has a 5GB Install, Too

lost-planet.jpg

In news bound to make the crybabies whine once again, another Capcom game for PlayStation 3 is going to start off with a 5GB install. According to dbTechno, the install shouldn’t take more than 20 minutes and will result in “lightning fast load-times.”

Devil May Cry 4 drew plenty of criticism for mandating an install before you could play the game, but ultimately I think those that actually played the game were much less upset than those shouting from the sidelines. I personally don’t think this is a big deal, but if this is going to become a regular feature(?) of Capcom games, early adopters with a 20GB hard drive might find that their HD space is coming at a premium.

One has to wonder, though – why are the installs mandatory and not optional? If someone wants to save their HD space and sit through long load times mid-game, let them.

Guess I’ll stick to buying 360 cross platform games…

Because every PS3 has a hard drive and the developers want to use it. Plan on this to be more common.

So what if it installs 5GB, and it takes 30 minutes?!?
It is only happening ONCE!

Back in the old days of gaming, i had to load in games via a tape recorder, and that would easy take about 5 – 10 minutes or more EACH TIME i played it!!

Some people whine every time.
At least we have Blu-ray ;)

You know why games on the Xbox 360 don’t do 5GB installs? Because its hard drive fragments like crazy!!! Try playing Oblivion on the 360 and watch the load time slow to a crawl over the course of a week or 2. Its annoying! I had the reset the system cache every once in awhile and even then that doesn’t totally solve the problem.

I don’t recall any long load times when I was playing Lost Planet a year ago on my 360……maybe that Blu-ray drive isn’t such a good idea in a game console after all.

I own both and to me its proof positive, that the xbox 360 processors are more suited to gaming than ps3 cell processor.
