LotRO 2013 Game Plan Includes Long-Awaited Helm’s Deep
Turbine Executive Producer Kate Paiz posted a short overview of this year’s plans for Lord of the Rings Online. Having delved into Eastern Rohan with last Fall’s expansion , Turbine has sidetracked a bit in December’s Update 9 and the upcoming Update 10 by releasing new content focused on The Hobbit. But after that, she promises the rest of the year will be about releasing content exploring Western Rohan.
The Western Rohan updates will come first in the form of Wildermore, an area between the Ent’s home of Fangorn and The Wold (northeastern Rohan). The second major installment will introduce the capital of Rohan, Edoras, where King Théoden sits under the spell of Gríma Wormtongue, and of course the battle of Helm’s Deep which will include a cast of thousands.
In addition to the new content, Turbine is focusing heavily on the Player’s Council, a group of dedicated players that will provide feedback to the devs. And from that feedback and what they get from the forums, they are looking to revamping their aging player housing system as well as take a new look at classes to cut down on the number of abilities, but increase the potency of the ones that remain.
More immediately, Update 10 is landing on the test servers next week. It includes four new Hobbit-themed instances (Battle of Dale, anyone?), the removal of the Dread death penalty if you die outside of instances, and easier access to 1st Age Legendary items.
