LOTRO Dev Corner: Month of the Captain

Many big changes came with the latest update for Lord of the Rings Online: Book 10 City of the Kings. The Developer’s Corner takes a look at what has changed and been added to Captains.

Referred to as the “Swiss army knife of the battlefield”, the Captain class is LotRO’s #1 buff class. The original Captain comes with the Herald, a pet that players either love or despise. For those who would rather ditch the pet, there is a new option, Banner Standards. Basic Standards will become available at 20th level and can be bought from the Captain Trainer although some of the more advanced Banners will be crafted by Tailors.

Equipped Standards provide stat bonuses and when used will be placed on the ground beside you and provide you and your party the same buffs Heralds normally do. While using and standard, you can’t summon a Herald and vice versa. You can play as a Standards Captain, a Herald Captain, or mix it up according to each situation if you invest in both.

Other things that have been revamped are Herald Armaments, the Shield Brother mechanic, Healing, Combat Revives and Summoning Horns. New Skills have been added and some existing skills and traits have been tweaked. The changes look promising but the proof is in the play testing. Meet you on the Field of Battle Captain.
