Magic the Gathering: Tactics Launches

Magic the Gathering is best known as a card game, both virtual and physical. Sony Online recently took on the challenge of converting the gameplay of this storied property into a web-based strategy title. The game offers players a starting army pack and is free to play but allows purchase of booster packs to augment your forces. (Somewhat like EA’s failed BattleForge game from last year.)

There is a certain irony here since Sony Online has a history of taking non-game properties like Stargate and turning them into virtual card games. With Magic, it’s almost doing the reverse.

Excited? Well here’s the launch trailer for the game. I’m beginning to play this and hope to have a review or impression piece up in the next few days.
