Director Dario Argento, Italy’s “Master of Thriller” is lending his vocal skills to the Italian version of EA’s Dead Space, breathing life into Doctor Kyne. Argento’s work has heavily influenced modern horror and slasher movies. When offered the chance to step out from behind the camera to lend his voice to the survival horror game, Argento attacked the part gusto.
Dario Argento and videogames would normally seem like two very different and seemingly distant worlds in the eyes of many, but when the master of thriller was given the chance to play a character in Dead Space he didn’t think twice about it. The Italian director lent his decennial experience and actively contributed in defining the character. He provided precious and accurate suggestions about the overall tone and style of the voice acting, and didn’t just read the script. Thanks to his advice and attention to detail, the result is simply astounding, far beyond the usual ‘famous-voice-in-a-videogame’ cliché. The famous director had this to say about the game, “Dead Space truly captures the essence of fear in an entertainment medium. Not only is it the most terrifying game I’ve ever played, but it’s also one that all fans of horror will appreciate.”
In my experience a good translation and voice over can make or break a game. Argento knows horror, and is a solid choice to project a persona into Dr. Kyne. Dead Space will hit shelves October 14.

Bad news indeed. Dario Argento is the biggest hack ever to helm a horror film. With the possible exception of Eli Roth.
