Mario Strikers Charged Crashes Nintendo Network

mariostriker.jpg

One of Nintendo’s most anticipated games for the Wii had its European launch yesterday. Mario Strikers Charged is the first game from the console giant to utilize Nintendo’s Wifi network, and it’s first day did not go as planned – it crashed the network. Apparently Nintendo’s server park was unable to handle the amount of traffic it was receiving, which kept giving gamers error messages that stats could not be retrieved after choosing their Mii (online character). For some reason, Nintendo did not anticipate the popularity of this launch, and have supposedly fixed the issue. You may now log in, but some stats seem to either be lost or reset.

One would think that a large company like Nintendo would have one of the best IT and programming departments in the business, or at least one better prepared. Apparently not. They better be careful, or there will be a bunch of football hooligans banging on their door with lead pipes.
