Mass Effect 2 Voice Actor Robin Sachs Dies at 61

Actor Robin Sachs, best known for his roles on television’s “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and later as the voice of Zaeed Massani in Mass Effect 2 and 3, died Friday at the age of 61, the BBC is reporting.

Sachs was a respected voice and character actor, probably best known for his role as Ethan Raynes, a villainous repeat guest character, on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” He also took on the role of the alien villain Sarris in Galaxy Quest, with Tim Allen and Sigourney Weaver.

More recently, Sachs had done voice work for a number of video games, including Mass Effect 2 and 3, Dragon Age: Origins, Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days and Maijin and the Forsaken Kingdom.

A post on Sachs’ official website states his death was “sudden and unexpected,” but gives no further details.

That sucks. Zaaed was one of my favourite crewmates despite being a DLC add-on (thankfully free) with no specific cutscenes aside from his loyalty missions. Sachs made that happen more than anything else, he had a voice and a manner of speaking that was both cold and ruthless, yet also had an air of sincerity and morality to it at the same time. Zaaed actually seemed more like what Shepard should have been in the last couple of games, instead of the black and white ‘evil option vs saintly option’ thing we ended up with. There were true shades of grey with Zaaed, and Sachs did a grand job of portraying them.

Rest in peace.
