Mass Effect 3 Carries Over 1,000 Variables from Mass Effect 2

Joystiq‘s got an interview with Mass Effect project lead Casey Hudson coming soon, but they decided to tease us with this bit: “We’re pulling in probably over a thousand variables from Mass Effect 2 into Mass Effect 3 if you’re importing your save game.”

Good. Now, what I’m curious about is if some of the things carried over from the first game that had no discernible effect on the second — like Helena Blake or Gianna Parasini, for example — will play into this big finale. Damn it, I really want Mass Effect 3 like yesterday. Though I guess I don’t mind having enough to time to play through the first two games another dozen times each in pepper-ation.

1000 variables, nice, but will they actually impact game play? I mean importing a ME1 game to ME2 didnt really have any impact on how you played ME2. Your old team still didnt join you, the council still wouldnt listen to you, if you let the council die you could still buy from a certain merchant who hated humans, etc. It was like what you did in ME1 meant jack in ME2.
