Mass Effect 3: Citadel – New Romance Options Guide

The Citadel add-on for Mass Effect 3 gives Shepard one last chance for a romantic evening, either continuing romantic links or starting fresh with someone new in an impulsive night of passion. Many characters that didn’t feature prominently in Mass Effect 3 get a final hurrah, while previously unromanceable characters like James Vega or Javik (!) can now spend time with Shepard before facing off with the Reapers. There are other characters players can invite up for a unique romantic scene, so check out the list below to see who’s available.

We haven’t tried every combination yet! Let us know in the comments if there’s anyone we’ve missed and we’ll add names accordingly.

Jack as a Female Shepard option? Nice of Bioware to completely ignore the motivations of that character then, as I tried that option in ME2 and was turned down flat, told that she wasn’t interested. I guess the end of the universe has a way of changing your sexuality though, right? Right?!

Wait a minute! Bioware is completely fine with offering up new Romance options yet they won’t offer us up any new endings? Not even a Morinth romance option where you can die? Well, I guess that would count as a new ending now wouldn’t it? Sigh, well okay then……

Still, can’t help but laugh at Javik being a new option for female Shepard though.

We’re gonna party at Shepards place like we all gonna die…oh wait we do die, bummer.

What was the point of this anyway? It all ends badly.

Shepard gets to give the old in and out to someone new then dumps them like used chewing gum. The LI story arc never ends (unless the LI dies like Thane). EA had plenty of opportunity to make the LI story have an anchor.

When saying your final goodbyes (just before you put on your rising sun headband and drink the ceremonial sake) Admiral Anderson was standing 5 feet away. EA could have easily married the LI using Anderson officiating ( or at least making it an option) but for some bizarre reason choose not to. This would have taken all of 5 minutes (oh wait this 5 minutes was reserved for the fantastic ending). Instead you end up using the LI and making your “paragon” look like a complete .

Funny thing is as you walked on the Citadel and listened to the conversations EA was making a freaking social point with some of the side conversations we heard (one was a human female talking about an Asari “wife”). So marriage was ok for the rest of the galaxy but not our boy(or girl) Shepard?

And freaking Javik!? The guy who wants to go kill himself after it is all over? I suppose then thinking about it that makes PERFECT sense. Why not Legion for femshep…Joker is getting the same kind of action.

I guess this was EA “pulling out all the stops”. I am embarrsed by this – not for myself but I am embarresed on behalf of EA since they don’t seem to realize how silly it is.

Ok, so let me see if I got it right…
The galaxy is in danger. Homeworlds are being taken over by the Reapers. Cerberus is attacking colonies and putting obstacles in the Alliance’s way….And Shepard takes a break so he can have a few drinks and “cool down” .

This sounds very stupid.

And the worst thing is whatever you do while playing these DLC doesn’t affect the outcome.

Gus – smudboy pretty much summed up how retarded the premise for this is in his “trailer reaction” Youtube video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zODBkHxJPrs

To be honest though, most of it is the same complaint – “we don’t have time for this.” And it’s true. It’s just fluff, a contrived excuse to get Shepard back on the Citadel under the pretext of “relaxing”. Never mind the fact that he already has a perfectly good quarters on the Normandy, one that has the benefit of being on board one of the most effective military vessels in the universe.

The part where I laughed hardest was when smudboy pointed out that the codex says there’s 200,000 police and C-sec troops on the citadel at any given time. The idea that Shepard and his team would be forced to go this alone is unbelievably stupid.

GazH – it’s nothing new. Remember, MaleShep was given romance options in ME3 which were still accessible even if you had straight romances in the previous two games. One of these romances was with Kaiden, another character who showed no signs of bisexuality or homosexuality in previous instalments. Did BioWare make this any kind of deal? Did Shepard ever have any sort of internal conflict regarding his own sexual orientation compared to his yearning for companionship? Nope – Shepard basically just says “cool” and goes along with it.

When people pointed out how stupid this was, they were called homophobes. I wish I was joking.

Hello Fanneh!

Yes, I agree 100% with what Smudboy said in his video.
For me, there’ no way this DLC could fit in ME3 storyline. The only way something like this coulb be done is to place it after the events of ME2, but before The Arrival DLC.

hey, so these LIs are only for SingleSheps?does any1 know if the rumor about Miranda in a hot tub is true? i was kinda pissed today since Miri died so i was single, then i wake up in bed next to Jack…WTF???XD

@khamza,

As far as I’m aware, many of these new scenes are only for committed Sheps, but the all-new ones are for SingleSheps.

The way relationships work out can be kind of strange in the Citadel DLC! I’ve heard people in committed relationships end up in bed with Javik (!) at the end too.

Sounds great can’t wait to play it!

People moaning about being given options and wanting more structure as always. There are equally as many if not more than want choices and variations, so thank you bioware!

Thank you for bringing back all the old favorites and doing what so many were asking for, something to get them together and give the old ME 2 squadmates some screen time as a bonus :)

The funny thing is that people are honestly complaining about being called homophobes while being at least heterosexist at the same time. Why should m!Shepard question his sexuality? He does not say anything regarding his sexuality, it’s your choice. I managed to play the first two parts without my male Shep even remotedly hinting at being interested in women. If you play him as a guy who s only females then what the hell is your problem? It’s not like Kaidan or Cortez throw themselves at you any more than the female options do. You can tell them no and that’s that.

I didn’t hear anyone complain about all the lesbian options. Color me unsurprised.

The complains about Kaidan I kind of get, and kind of do not get. Okay, he told us he likes women. That doesn’t mean that he cannot also like dudes, regulary, or occasionally, or just once. A guy can’t fall for another guy because he previously only slept with women? Yeah, right. Know what? That’s not how it works.

The fact that I can choose to play a character of any sexuality in the newer Bioware Games is what made me a faithful constomer.

Oh, and when I played the first parts I didn’t even know anything about Bioware and I already thought Shepard and Kaidan had a serious thing for each other. So maybe play their scenes again and listen to the music and the words and look into their faces and tell me that it came as a COMPLETE SURPRISE when Kaidan “suddenly” seems interested in ME3.

Paul, it’s more to do with the fact that the options are clearly only there for the sake of being there, and not for any sort of narrative benefit.

Kaiden and Shepard never had any kind of sexual chemistry in the first two games. It was always a bromance. Even if you want to claim that if Shepard didn’t romance anyone else then it shouldn’t matter, that goes straight out the window when you consider that the options are not any different even if Shepard has a heterosexual romance option. This for me is why it fails – instead of potentially being a really interesting development in Shepard’s character, to have him questioning his sexuality or coming out as a closet homosexual who no longer cares about facing prejudice when time is so limited anyway, there’s absolutely no attempt by BioWare to give Shepard any kind of internal struggle or even an acknowledgement that what he’s facing is new to him. Instead, even if Shepard’s been with female characters, you can almost unwittingly enter a romance with Kaiden which is entirely sporadic and without any kind of foundation whatsoever. It’s literally a case of choosing one single dialogue option in one single conversation. Even the heterosexual romance options take more nurturing and cultivating than this, so it’s entirely unfair for you or anyone else to just say “deal with it, g@y bashers.” The simple fact is that the homosexual romance options are not given anywhere near the same amount of respect or thought as the heterosexual or even the lesbian romance options.

As for people not complaining about the lesbian romances? I think you’ll find a small number actually did. However, again, the difference is that it’s been established since the first game that it’s possible for femShep to have a lesbian romance. Couple that with the fact that Liara is her potential love interest in the first game and Asari are more asexual than either hetero or homo, and it’s not a valid counterargument. You can’t apply that to say that people should therefore accept that even an explicitly straight maleShep would just spontaneously decide to enter a relationship with Kaiden.

It’s dumb writing and just another example of how badly things degraded into histrionic melodrama when Hudson and Walters rose to the top. It’s far from the worst thing about the game (cou*thecatalyst*ugh) but it is really, really bad.

@TJ What’s the matter? :( Is little baby cranky? Unlike you, listening to whine and cry is like music to my ears. The Bioware suckpuppy isn’t happy. Yeah, sing baby sing.
First off, Bioware doesn’t do anything for anybody but themselves and only if money is involved. They did this because they thought idiots like you would lap it up like the waters of life itself.
I love people like you. You remind me there are people out there dumber than my roommate ( which is very hard to believe). Waiting for your to whine back, with big, wet, sobby tears, spouting more of your unerring wisdom

Honestly………. that the best you can do? Figures. Most Bioware lapdogs are stupid. Not all, but most. You, little lapdog, are stupid. Cant make an actual argument to make your case. All you good at is crying and btching, and you cant handle those with common sense. I won’t fault people for liking it. That’s their prerogative, but I do fault Bioware for making such a cheap piece of poorly written and thought out drivel. I also fault those who can’t seem to handle others who don’t like that cheep piece of drivel, and throw tantrums. Those are the real babies hear, not the other way around
Anyway, I don’t believe in feeding the trolls (just tossing a bone or two), so I wont be responding to what ever incredibly witty comeback you have planned. Merry Christmas. ( and yes I do mean it. I’m not all Grinch).
