Mass Effect 3: Citadel – New Romance Options Guide

The Citadel add-on for Mass Effect 3 gives Shepard one last chance for a romantic evening, either continuing romantic links or starting fresh with someone new in an impulsive night of passion. Many characters that didn’t feature prominently in Mass Effect 3 get a final hurrah, while previously unromanceable characters like James Vega or Javik (!) can now spend time with Shepard before facing off with the Reapers. There are other characters players can invite up for a unique romantic scene, so check out the list below to see who’s available.

We haven’t tried every combination yet! Let us know in the comments if there’s anyone we’ve missed and we’ll add names accordingly.

Jack as a Female Shepard option? Nice of Bioware to completely ignore the motivations of that character then, as I tried that option in ME2 and was turned down flat, told that she wasn’t interested. I guess the end of the universe has a way of changing your sexuality though, right? Right?!

Wait a minute! Bioware is completely fine with offering up new Romance options yet they won’t offer us up any new endings? Not even a Morinth romance option where you can die? Well, I guess that would count as a new ending now wouldn’t it? Sigh, well okay then……

Still, can’t help but laugh at Javik being a new option for female Shepard though.

We’re gonna party at Shepards place like we all gonna die…oh wait we do die, bummer.

What was the point of this anyway? It all ends badly.

Shepard gets to give the old in and out to someone new then dumps them like used chewing gum. The LI story arc never ends (unless the LI dies like Thane). EA had plenty of opportunity to make the LI story have an anchor.

When saying your final goodbyes (just before you put on your rising sun headband and drink the ceremonial sake) Admiral Anderson was standing 5 feet away. EA could have easily married the LI using Anderson officiating ( or at least making it an option) but for some bizarre reason choose not to. This would have taken all of 5 minutes (oh wait this 5 minutes was reserved for the fantastic ending). Instead you end up using the LI and making your “paragon” look like a complete .

Funny thing is as you walked on the Citadel and listened to the conversations EA was making a freaking social point with some of the side conversations we heard (one was a human female talking about an Asari “wife”). So marriage was ok for the rest of the galaxy but not our boy(or girl) Shepard?

And freaking Javik!? The guy who wants to go kill himself after it is all over? I suppose then thinking about it that makes PERFECT sense. Why not Legion for femshep…Joker is getting the same kind of action.

I guess this was EA “pulling out all the stops”. I am embarrsed by this – not for myself but I am embarresed on behalf of EA since they don’t seem to realize how silly it is.

Ok, so let me see if I got it right…
The galaxy is in danger. Homeworlds are being taken over by the Reapers. Cerberus is attacking colonies and putting obstacles in the Alliance’s way….And Shepard takes a break so he can have a few drinks and “cool down” .

This sounds very stupid.

And the worst thing is whatever you do while playing these DLC doesn’t affect the outcome.

Gus – smudboy pretty much summed up how retarded the premise for this is in his “trailer reaction” Youtube video.

To be honest though, most of it is the same complaint – “we don’t have time for this.” And it’s true. It’s just fluff, a contrived excuse to get Shepard back on the Citadel under the pretext of “relaxing”. Never mind the fact that he already has a perfectly good quarters on the Normandy, one that has the benefit of being on board one of the most effective military vessels in the universe.

The part where I laughed hardest was when smudboy pointed out that the codex says there’s 200,000 police and C-sec troops on the citadel at any given time. The idea that Shepard and his team would be forced to go this alone is unbelievably stupid.

GazH – it’s nothing new. Remember, MaleShep was given romance options in ME3 which were still accessible even if you had straight romances in the previous two games. One of these romances was with Kaiden, another character who showed no signs of bisexuality or homosexuality in previous instalments. Did BioWare make this any kind of deal? Did Shepard ever have any sort of internal conflict regarding his own sexual orientation compared to his yearning for companionship? Nope – Shepard basically just says “cool” and goes along with it.

When people pointed out how stupid this was, they were called homophobes. I wish I was joking.

Hello Fanneh!

Yes, I agree 100% with what Smudboy said in his video.
For me, there’ no way this DLC could fit in ME3 storyline. The only way something like this coulb be done is to place it after the events of ME2, but before The Arrival DLC.

@khamza,

As far as I’m aware, many of these new scenes are only for committed Sheps, but the all-new ones are for SingleSheps.

The way relationships work out can be kind of strange in the Citadel DLC! I’ve heard people in committed relationships end up in bed with Javik (!) at the end too.

Sounds great can’t wait to play it!

People moaning about being given options and wanting more structure as always. There are equally as many if not more than want choices and variations, so thank you bioware!

Thank you for bringing back all the old favorites and doing what so many were asking for, something to get them together and give the old ME 2 squadmates some screen time as a bonus :)
