Male Shepard Romance Guide

Female Shepard Romance Guide

Available Romance Options

Ashley Williams

  • Ash can only enter into a romance with Male Shepard.
  • New Shepards, or players that did not previously attempt a romantic subplot with Ashley can still attempt to romance her in ME3.
  • Early in the game, Ashley will be in a hospital in the Citadel. Visit her often between missions if you want to have a romantic relationship with her.

Kaidan Alenko

  • Kaidan can enter into a romance with Female Shepard. Uncomfirmed: Kaidan may also be able to enter into relationships with Male Shepard, new or old. Try at your own risk!
  • New Shepards, or players that did not previously attempt a romantic subplot with Kaidan can still attempt to romance him in ME3.
  • Early in the game, Kaidan will be in a hospital in the Citadel. Visit him often between missions if you want to have a romantic relationship.

EDI

  • Not an option, but oddly enough, she will enter into a relationship with Joker if you discuss the subject with Joker and EDI enough on the Normandy.

Garrus

  • Only a romance option for Female Shepard.
  • A new romance cannot start in ME3, only a previous relationship from ME2 can be continued.

Tali

  • Only a romance option for Male Shepard.
  • Like Garrus, a new romance cannot start in ME3 with Tali, you must transfer a previous relationship started in ME2.

Liara

  • The Asari goes both ways — she’s a romance option for both Male and Female Shepards.
  • New players that did not previously try to have a relationship can build intimacy with Liara, or continue their previous romantic escapades from ME1.

Lieutenant Cortez

  • Not a squad member, but he is a romance option! You’ll meet him on the Normandy, as your crew’s shuttle pilot.
  • Cortez is a romance option for Male Shepard only.
  • You’ll only be able to romantically pursue Cortez between missions. Talk to him on the Cargo Deck of the Normandy.

Joker

  • Not an option, but he will hook up with EDI with Shepard’s support.

Miranda Lawson

  • Not a squad member, but her romantic subplot from ME2 can be continued in ME3.
  • Only a romance option with Male Shepard, and only after a file transfer from a character with an established relationship with Miranda from ME2.
  • She doesn’t join your squad or follow you on the Normandy.

Jacob Taylor

  • Another non-squad option. A new romance can not be started in ME3 with Jacob, you’ll need to transfer a character from ME2 with a previously established intimate relationship.
  • Unfortunately, the romance cannot continue with Jacob, but he will discuss their past. Only Female Shepard can enter into a relationship with Jacob in ME2.

Specialist Traynor

[Video from the Game Front Video Team!]

  • Yet more non-squad romance options, but Traynor is a full-fledged romantic choice. Traynor replaces Kelly Chambers from ME2.
  • Traynor is only a romantic option for Female Shepard.
  • She appears near the Galaxy Map, and never leaves her post on the Normandy.

Diana Allers

  • Even more non-squad romance options! Diana is found during your first return visit to the Citadel. Let her join your crew and you’ll be able to talk to her on the Normandy.
  • Diana is a romance option for both Male and Female Shepards.

Jack

  • To find Jack, you’ll need to talk to Traynor about Grissom Academy and complete the mission.
  • Jack can only be romanced by Male Shepards, and must have an established relationship from ME2. She also has to survive the Suicide Mission.

That’s all the romance options we’ve discovered! Are there more? Which romantic partner is your favorite? Which are you going after? Leave us a comment.

What happens when u had a romance in 1
and2 how does it effect romances in 3?

Kevin Thielenhaus

On March 6, 2012 at 3:57 pm

Hey SK!

If you, say, started a romance with Ashley or Kaiden in ME1 and then switched to a different character in ME2 (Like Tali or Garrus), then your original ME1 romantic partners will express some hurt that you left them. But don’t despair! If you want to get them back, you can still convince them to stick with you.

Otherwise, if you stay faithful to the same partner, they’ll have more affection for you right away and make romance that much easier in ME3.

What? No James Vega?

Niko

On March 7, 2012 at 1:01 pm

U guys forgot jack. U can rekindle if u had a romance with her in ME2.

Cat

On March 7, 2012 at 7:24 pm

If you romanced Thane in ME2, you get to ‘rekindle’ a romance with him as well- kind of. If a hinted at sex scene, making out and a “We can’t be together, so go live lour life while I die” statement counts as a romance :P

I was pretty disappointed in this part actually.

In ME2 my character and Miranda appeared ready to hook up and then when I went through the Omega relay we just talked and didn’t do the deed. Is there any way to score in ME3? Or is Ashley still an option? I had no sex in ME1 or 2… help, I gots to lay one of these fine video game hotties or else what the hell am I saving the galaxy for?

How is it that Male Shepard can romance Kaiden, but Femshep can’t romance Ashley???

Mikey

On March 9, 2012 at 6:53 pm

Definitely disappointing. I spent a lot of time looking it up and also trying it all out, and no matter what James Vega is just not an option…. He flirts and flirts, but then nothing… I really hope that either there is some stuff embedded in the PC version that someone will discover, or that in a DLC he may become interested…. After all, he is the hottest IMO

Kevin

On March 9, 2012 at 10:57 pm

Hey Mikey,

Yeah, it’s crazy! James Vega is an OBVIOUS romantic choice, but there’s nothing! He’s a new character, so it seems like it’d be easy for Bioware to fill in his dialogue. Instead we get Cortez, which is a weird, lesser version of Vega. Weird stuff.

Hey J,

Unless you had sex with Miranda in ME2, I think you’re out of luck. And I imagine you’d remember that! BUT, don’t despair! Ashley is still a romantic option, even if you didn’t sleep with her in ME2. It might require a few more hospital visits, but you can still hook up.

I’m trying to Romance Kaidan with my Maleshep, but I think I missed the part where I have to bring him the bottle of whiskey or whatever as a gift in the hospital. Is it still possible for me to romance him, or do I have to start over?

Kevin

On March 10, 2012 at 8:11 pm

Hey Ant,

You can still romance Kaidan if you missed the bottle of whiskey. It might take more visits to get him on your side, though. Just use polite responses, and check your ship e-mail often to see if Kaidan wants to see you between missions.

I went for the easy score, romanced Tali in ME2, the second I got to helping the Quarians in ME3, I invited Tali to my cabin for a little Bleep_Bloop (that’s the achievement sound you sickos!)

Shepard

On March 12, 2012 at 5:42 am

One of the options when talking to Joker about him and EDI, was asking him what about us? I didnt do that option but is there anyone who tried romancing him?

Lessandra

On March 12, 2012 at 6:35 am

@Shepard:
if you ask Joker “what about us”, Shepard will say that he’s so focused on EDI he may be overlooking other options. Joker will get flustered and say that he never considered it. Shepard will press: “And now that you’re considering it?” Joker will reply along the lines of: “You’re still my CO. In another world, in another life I would rock your world, but here now I would follow you to the end of the world but–” *awkward pause* Shepard chuckled: “Not into my bed quarters.” And the dialogue drifts back to the Joker/EDI romance.

Also, I would like to point out to the author of the article: since you brought up Joker/EDI, you should probably mention that Garrus and Tali, if neither of them were romanced in ME2, will enter in a romantic relationship.

Shepard

So if you had romance with Liara in ME1 and ME2 but you have sex with Diana Allers what happens?

Kevin

On March 12, 2012 at 1:17 pm

Hey Shepard,

As far as I know, romancing one character will preclude all other romantic options. So, if you romance Diana, it just means you won’t be able to pursue a romantic relationship with Liara.

Fem Shep

On March 12, 2012 at 1:20 pm

Blew off Liara, Jacob cheated and got some ho preggers.
Try’d for Vega and failed. Why no Vega?!?!? Seriously?!?!

Chris

I just want to know that if I slept with Ashley in ME1, than slept with Miranda in ME2, can I get back with Ashley and sleep with her in ME3?

Kelly Chambers

If you invited Kelly for “fun in the capt’ns cabin” in ME2, you’ll bump into her in the refugue camp where you can re kindle the past fun.
She won’t be there if you didn’t woo her.

mary92

On March 19, 2012 at 8:58 pm

you can also romance Traynor i did it by accident and there was a shower seen and whatnot jus thought i would put that out there lol

Jack Harkness 5

On March 20, 2012 at 8:30 pm

Kelly Chambers is available to rekindle if she survives the Cerberus attack on the Citadel & if you had her dancing in your cabin. Both male & female Shep can get this

Matt

On March 25, 2012 at 3:58 am

The last time you see Jack is on Earth at the end, you speak to her via hologram. You don’t even spend your last night with her. After Purgatory, you never see her again. Kinda sucks??

Nigel

On March 25, 2012 at 10:52 am

It seems like all the ME2 LI’s not in your squad in 3 have kind of crappy romances. Like Thane, Jacob, Kelly, Jack, and my one and only Miranda all have pretty bad romance plots. It seems like Bioware intentionally left out all those options on the vine. I feel especially bad for Jacob and Thane fans. I know Jacob was possibly the most vanilla (as in personality) character in the series, but they still treated him unfairly, and I know there are a lot of Thane fans out there. I’m upset because Miranda had maybe a combined 90 seconds of Romance dialogue in the game (which made up her entire appearance of about 5 minutes in the game) versus Ashley or Kaidain (my Virmire survivor) who it seems every conversation talks about their romance, and they actually get a worthwhile sex scene.

On March 27, 2012 at 3:28 am

Liara’s romance scene was pretty… for lack of a better word, hot lol Atleast the Liara/Femshep one was.. dunno if there’s any differences between the scenes when it comes to gender. I found it better than Ashley’s but Jack fans DEFINITELY got screwed (I’m so a fan, even more so with her new look)

I got a dialogue option to proposition Joker in the nightclub. He didn’t go for it.
