Mass Effect 3 Face Import Issues Fix Coming Next Patch

Good news to disfigured Shepards everywhere: Mass Effect 3‘s face import issues will be solved in the next patch.

BioWare Community Coordinator Chris Priestly gave us the good news via the BioWare forums
, but followed it with the unfortunate reality that we can’t know when the patch will be released just yet:

The not completely good news is that I do not yet have a confirmed date for when the patch will be available. A new patch gets heavily tested by BioWare, EA, Microsoft and Sony before it can be released to the public. We all want to be sure that it fixes the issues it is supposed to fix and doesn’t start any new issues (this is called testing or certification testing ). If a patch fails during testing, it is sent back, fixed again and retested until it passes. Then it is released to gamers. Until we know that the patch has passed certification testing, I don’t want to give even a rough idea of the date, to prevent disappointment should it need further testing.

So I’m sorry I don’t have the full answer you all want and are waiting for yet. When I can give you the date when the patch will be available I will.

Apparently, the issue was an error with how codes were detected when transferred from Mass Effect 1 into Mass Effect 2 and then on into Mass Effect 3 or importing a Mass Effect 2 saved game with New Game +.

If you’re unwilling to wait, here’s a fix for PC users:

Glad to see this is being fixed. I’m still surprised they missed such a annoying bug.

this didn’t bother me too much, as I had a photos from ME2 that showed what position the sliders were in for ‘my shep’, was simple enough to copy it.

That said, they had fundamentally changed the mouth shape of the particular mouth I chose, meaning it wasn’t an exact match.

Well this is good to see at least. As much as the ending drove me nuts, the face import issue was still something that also really needed fixing. Just imagine if the endings were changed, and this bug was still around?

I found that going from ME1 to ME2 my character’s face was unchanged, but the hair style in 2 was slightly different. I played a FemShep with the short ponytail, and the position of the ponytail was changed just a bit. Nothing major, and after a couple missions it never registered as different.

Then, when I took my ME2 save into ME3, the face code I was using somehow changed skin tone, hair style and hair color. I managed to readjust to get most things back to normal, but I found that the short ponytail had changed AGAIN. This time I get strands of loose hair hanging in my face all the time. It’s not just that ME3 didn’t import correctly, but the actual customization options change every time so that even if it does import I’m still getting a different Shepard.

Obligatory note: All of the above is merely a bit annoying; I’m not angry about it, just kind of nonplussed that they would do wholesale replacements of some options, instead of just tacking on new ones.
