Mass Effect 3 Gets a Demo on Feb. 14
We’ve got a date for the beginnings of the Reaper invasion: Feb. 14. That’s when you’ll be able to download the Mass Effect 3 demo and get a taste of things to come.
As I previously speculated, the demo will, in fact, include content we’ve already seen — the opening attack on Earth, which features Commander Shepard and Captain/Ambassador/Councilman Anderson fleeing from an Alliance headquarters building and making their way, with whatever survivors they can find, to waiting evacuation shuttles. We got a taste of this bit at Comic-Con and E3 last year, and it’s a little light on story but heavy on hiding behind cover and the shooting of new classes of husks, including Turian, Krogan and even Batarians, all with their own abilities to make you fear them.
The opening is graphically impressive, with huge Reapers attacking human cities in San Francisco — it’s quite a spectacle. But the demo will also include the controversial multiplayer component that’s being baked into Mass Effect 3. As Electronic Arts’ press release put it: “Players will go deeper into the campaign and also get a taste of the franchise’s new co-operative multiplayer mode as they preview the epic story, adrenaline-pumping action and deep customization options that lie ahead when Mass Effect 3 launches on March 6.”
Don’t forget, if you download the demo to Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, you’ll get in-game bonuses in both Amalur and Mass Effect 3. If you download the ME3 demo, you get in-game bonuses in Amalur. Hooray.
