Mass Effect 3: Live Tweeting The Reaper Invasion

Mild Mass Effect 3 spoilers below.

One of best things about Mass Effect 3 is that BioWare has packed it full of shout-outs and continuity gags going back to the very first moments of Mass Effect. Even elements from the novels and from other games have made their way into the labyrinthine narrative, each moment paying off beautifully, some as hilarious punchlines, others as touching nods to tremendous sacrifices being endured galaxy-wide. The one notable omission is the lack of an appearance by ace reporter Emily Wong.

In Mass Effect, we meet Emily Wong on the Citadel where she’s trying to make a name for herself as an investigative reporter for the Alliance News Network. Commander Shepard helps her uncover proof of a local gangster’s corruption, earning her friendship and some money to boot. She’s briefly referenced in Mass Effect 2 when she sends Shep an email requesting an exclusive interview as soon as Shep is free. However, she makes no appearance in Mass Effect 3, weird considering that you get the chance to punch Al-Jilani for a third time. Alas, since I had access to the game early, I didn’t know why (though I assumed she’d show up in DLC).

Now we know. Proving that BioWare really has thought of everything, Emily’s Mass Effect 3 experience was told via an absolutely epic thread on the Alliance News Network’s official Twitter feed that went live last night at Midnight. Here’s a snippet from near the beginning:

To describe it in full would be to spoil the fun; suffice to say, well played, BioWare. Well played. To read, click to visit the next page and scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page and read up to get a first hand account of the Reaper invasion of Earth.
