Mass Effect Fan Film ‘Red Sand’ Coming Oct. 7 (TRAILER)

Now that he’s done playing Commander Shepard (more or less) in the Mass Effect trilogy, voice actor Mark Meer is taking part in another, less official Mass Effect project.

It’s called “Red Sand,” a fan-made movie that takes place about 35 years before the start of the Mass Effect trilogy. If you know your ME lore, then you know that humanity first discovered that aliens existed in the universe when they discovered Prothean ruins on Mars — and soon after, were engaged in the First Contact War with the Turians when they reached the Charon mass relay beyond Pluto.

So the title “Red Sand” refers to the surface of Mars, but in Mass Effect, red sand is also a drug that can enhance biotic (or basically telekinetic) abilities in users. It’s also super-addictive. And that might give you some understanding of what’s going on in the trailer below.

“Red Sand” premieres at 6 p.m. Eastern, 3 p.m. Pacific (and 4 p.m. Mountain) on Oct. 7. You can catch it on the University of Advancing Technology YouTube Channel.

6 Comments on Mass Effect Fan Film ‘Red Sand’ Coming Oct. 7 (TRAILER)

I don’t care about this, and will not waste my time on anything that isn’t official Mass Effect canon. I just needed you all to know how little I care about this by telling you all how little I care, just as I do on every other article about unofficial Mass Effect canon. I also won’t be responding to any comments that reply to me, at least not for a couple of hours. Anyone who likes this is a crying baby who needs to get over the dreadful writing and piss-poor customer relations issues of the past few years and support BioWare even though they no longer exist beyond EA’s whim. Also, Mark Meer should be fired from any and all future Mass Effect games in the trilogy (what’s a trilogy, anyway?) for having autonomy and a career outside of the core franchise. Kthxbai

I always knew Mark Meer is awesome, but this made him even cooler in my eyes.
Also, Wesker is an idiot as usual.

Yea uh…. I really don’t care at all about this either and have no interest in watching it, even though it free. MAss Effect has come and gone thanks to the ending and I want no part in anything that has to do with it.

I’ll watch it. While I’m completely done with Bioware, I still loved Mass Effect. And Mark Meer seems like a pretty cool guy. It’s at least worth checking out.
