Mass Effect Fan Film ‘Red Sand’ Starring Mark Meer is Live

The Mass Effect prequel fan film “Red Sand” is now available on YouTube for your viewing pleasure.

The movie clocks in at about 14 minutes long, and tells a bit of story about humanity’s discovery of Prothean ruins on Mars, which is a bit of Mass Effect history that hasn’t actually seen any screen time in BioWare’s games. The title “Red Sand” also refers to a drug by the same name that exists in the Mass Effect universe. The stuff is made from the game’s fictional “element zero,” which powers spaceships, makes faster-than-light travel possible, and gives people and aliens telekinetic powers called “biotics.”

The film is notable because it also includes an element from the games — Mark Meer, who plays Jon Grissom in the short, and who voices the male version of Commander Shepard in the games.

Oh wow, this was really bad. Still, appreciate Mark Meer for taking part in it.
