Massive War Breaks Out in EVE Online

More than any other MMO, EVE Online delivers large-scale PVP combat. Thanks to the aggressive actions of the guild Test Alliance Please Ignore and their allies Honeybadgers and the CFC, all-out war has erupted in the backwater region of Delve. Defending Delve Residents were able to secure the help of the SOCO, Raiden, and Solar alliances, setting the stage for an interstellar showdown that could take weeks to play out. Like some sort of sci-fi assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, the conflict has now embroiled over forty guilds, hundreds of capital ships, and over 50,000 players, all but confirming it as the biggest in-game battle ever.

In the future, such space-based engagements will be supported by land-based FPS combat, courtesy of CCP’s forthcoming Dust 514 tie-in (see Game Front’s E3 interview). For now, it’s strictly a railgun vs. railgun affair. Check out the video below for some epic combat footage, or listen to the plaintive “Ballad of Delve.”

Man I love EVE in-game coverage, keep it up Gamefront.

I don’t like MMO’s in general, but if there is one I would at least try to play it would be EVE… But I’m afraid it would suck me right in and never let go.

It probably would. I enjoyed playing it. Although, when I was playing a year or two ago, everyone was complaining about how useless the capital ships were, so they were just money sinks.

I can’t believe I’m missing an actual in-game war right now.
