Did Rockstar Sneak A May, 2012 Release-Date Easter Egg In GTA V’s Trailer?
Leave it to our awesome readers to notice something even we missed.
Obviously, the whole gaming world has been poring over the just-released GTA V trailer, trying to glean as much about the game as we can with such limited information. We posted our own analysis of the trailer too, and commenter Jonathan noted “when he puts up the for sale sign it says 2405 which might be the release date”.
The moment happens at approximate minute 0:54; here’s a screenshot of what he’s talking about:
To clarify, in Britain, where Rockstar Games is Headquartered, like the rest of Europe they render dates as DAY/MONTH/YEAR, instead of MONTH/DAY/YEAR like we do in here in the US. So today’s date, rendered in America as 11/4/11 would be 4/11/11. 24/05 would be May 24th. Commenter Dan adds “A 5/24 release date makes sense. GTA 4 was released on a Thursday and 5/24/12 falls on a Thursday too. That is a good catch by Jonathan.”
It wouldn’t be the first time a developer threw an easter egg like this into a trailer, but what do you think?
