Metal Gear Online 2.00 Closes in June

On June 21, Metal Gear Online’s servers will go down for the last time.

On March 21, the MGO Online Shop will cease operations, and new character creation will be disabled in April. While there was a time when MGO had 1.3 million players, that was three years ago, and there simply isn’t enough of a player-base left for Konami to justify keeping the servers running. They’d never put it that way, but we get the idea.

The silver lining is the fact that all the game‘s expansion packs will be free until service ends in June.

There’s always Snake Eater 3D, right?

…right?

That’s too bad, but I understand why it must be done.

I got my PS3 initially just for the purpose of playing Metal Gear Solid 4. And the online was quite fun to play, and unique from most other games. But there really is just too much draw from hundreds of other games to keep people on it I guess.

Which is strange since there’s still a ton of people out there playing Quake 1-3, Counter-Strike, and DOOM online for example(s)

I find funny how there’s 10 year old pc games with 100 people only playing and still the companies keep just a few servers running and poor consoles have this sort of treatment, they could at least keep the master server running and patch the game to use some sort of peer to peer service.

i always wanted to know how people would bunny hop around it was raadd, like they would be like hackers, using bunny hop scripts, or some people were just really “that good” hahaaa. some people sucked but they could still bunny hop around, me not using wasd and spacebar, i used the directional keypad to move and ctrl pad for my pinky to jump, now im always using the wasd, i dunno why but counter-strike people always had a way with setting your hands on the keyboard.
