Metal Gear Solid 4 Gets a Rating from the ESRB

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots has now received a rating from the wonderful ESRB. Konami’s much anticipated final chapter in the series will be rated “M” for Mature, which means that if you are under 17 you should not be allowed to purchase it as the game will scar your minds, sully your souls, and make you commit random acts of violence on over the top enemies.

It is no surprise though considering 98% of all Metal Gear titles have been rated “M” – the only other titles for the series to be rated anything other than “M” were for handhelds. Anyway, here is the info pulled from the ESRB site, enjoy the boredom it brings to your world.

  • Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
  • Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc.
  • “M”
  • Blood, Crude Humor,Strong Language, Suggestive Themes, Violence
  • PlayStation 3

Is this really news? The game clearly has always had a mature theme with sexual innuendo and tension, brutal killings and colorful language. Hardly worth even mentioning.

And why the smarmy tone towards the ESRB? They’re just doing their job of rating it. Just because the game has unrealistic enemies doesn’t mean the acts of violence they commit are any less “real”.

Hmmm, sounds to me like someone is a bit cranky today.

I actually agree with Squirrel, they’re just doing their jobs. That comment was unnecessary, Stephnany.

I don’t know if it is the internet making it hard to “read” my personality or what, but you people take me way to damn seriously on here sometimes.

And BTW squirrel, if you do not think this constitutes as news, then go over to the other 10 sites that posted this that morning and tell them the same thing. We are all just trying to do our job here, just like the ESRB. ;-)

Actually, I disagree with Squirrel, and I disapprove of JoeSwanson’s scolding of Stephany and his inability to type.

Perhaps one thing that could constitute it as news is the contents under which the ESRB gave it an M rating. For example “crude humor,” now I know not to let my 14 year old niece play the game because she might hear some crude humor! They don’t have crude humor in school at that age, right? The ESRB’s ratings almost always suck because they have unrealistic perceptions of what is too “mature” for teenagers.

So you’re saying that anything “predictable” is not worth mentioning in news? That would eliminate a quite a bit of news…
