Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes Details Emerge at PAX
Thank goodness for people with camera phones. These days, anyone with access to Youtube can pretty much see whatever a PAX attendee is seeing, including the gameplay presentation for Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes. And there are a few interesting details to be gleaned from these internet vids.
First of all, the new Metal Gear Solid will be open world, allowing players to choose the best way to accomplish their objectives. In the demo, Snake was tasked with breaking into a heavily guarded military base. Once inside we saw another interesting new feature, the player hopped in a jeep and was able to drive it around the base. So we’ve got open world and vehicles, it looks like Snake’s been playing some GTA. Finally, Snake was able to call in a chopper for cover fire or just to hitch a ride. He simply pops a flare on the ground and bam, instant air support.
These new details are certainly interesting but it will undoubtedly give Ground Zeroes a different feel from previous Metal Gear Solid games. The ability to call in a chopper will certainly take away from that “behind enemy lines and cut off from all support” feel that other games in the series had. However, the game does look beautiful and giving Snake more freedom and more options can’t be a bad thing.
In addition to the presentation, there’s also a trailer available online. It features a 9 minute cutscene with a mysterious child in a cage. There’s a lot of speculation as to who the child is and some are saying that it might even be Liquid Snake.
The Ground Zeroes presentation is definitely enough to get fans of the series interested. The rich story at the heart of the franchise is what keeps players interested and Ground Zeroes definitely sucks players back into the world of Solid Snake and Big Boss. The mind-blowing graphics and new features are really just icing on the cake. I can’t wait to get my hands on the new game and I’m sure other fans of the series are equally as pumped.
