Michael Pachter Says Microsoft Paid $75 Million for GTA IV
Eurogamer has an interview with Michael Pachter, forecaster extraordinaire, and they talked about lots of stuff. Lots of stuff. There is talk of Xbox 360 Slims and Nintendo competing with Apple’s handhelds later this year and how Pachter is constantly wrong and…. how much Microsoft paid to have Grand Theft Auto IV on the 360 and get that exclusive DLC deal.
“GTA IV was going to be a PS3 exclusive, but Microsoft paid Rockstar and Take-Two to make it a non-exclusive, and they paid them a lot,” Pachter told Eurogamer “The number I’ve heard, and I’m sure this is right, is $75m, and that probably includes the funding for the first DLC packs too.”
Well, damn. That’s a lot of money. I’m sure it was worth it, since upwards of 3 million copies of the Xbox 360 version were sold in the United States alone in 2008, and that in itself would make for a fine profit.
I highly suggest you go read Eurogamer’s full interview; there you will learn exactly what it is Pachter does and why people always quote him. It’s good stuff.
