E3 2007: Microsoft and Disney Team Up on Movies for Marketplace

Attention was definitely centered on the new 360 and Games for Windows game lineup coming by years end. However, another interesting tidbit of Xbox related news hit the streets last night as well. Immediately Xbox Live! members can find Disney owned movies for “rent” on the Xbox Live! Marketplace.

“Xbox 360 and Xbox LIVE Marketplace truly offer something for everyone of all ages, gender or personal taste,” said Peter Moore, corporate vice president of the Interactive Entertainment Business in the Entertainment and Devices Division at Microsoft. “With this partnership, we are able to feature blockbuster new releases as they become available, as well as an incredible array of classic family films that made Disney the icon it is today.”

Movies mentioned to be available include: “The Bridge to Terabithia”, “The Queen” and Touchstone Picture’s “Deja Vu”. Considering the list of films Walt Disney Pictures, Miramax Films and Touchstone Pictures own this announcement means a great deal more family oriented content as well as huge blockbusters like the three “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies will be coming to the console, likely in HD versions as they are released.

The films will continue the current pricing scheme: High-definition new-release movie rentals are 480 Microsoft&reg Points each, and standard-definition new-release movie rentals are 320 Microsoft Points each. Classic feature films in high definition are 360 Microsoft Points each, and classic feature films in standard definition are 240 Microsoft Points.

The full details of the deal can be found on the Xbox Live! Marketplace website.
