Microsoft Giving Away Killer Instinct for Free to Select Gamers

Killer Instinct’s business model is interesting, taking a page from the likes of MOBAs such as League of Legends. The game itself will be free, but will only grant you access to a single playable character at a time, which rotates on a regular basis. Unless, of course, you purchase additional characters.

Well, reports from a number of Xbox Live subscribers indicate that Microsoft is unlocking all characters for select individuals, effectively giving the game away for free. Emails are being sent out to those selected.

“You’re a fan of us and we’re a fan of you,” the email reads. “We want to show you our appreciation, so we’re giving you: KILLER INSTINCT. We’ve unlocked all characters so you can hit the ground running. Watch your inbox on November 22 for instructions on how to claim your free gift. Don’t worry, we’ll remind you.”

The email signs off with a thank you from the Xbox Live team. “We wouldn’t be here without you, and we know you’ll do amazing things on Xbox One. Thank you from Xbox Live. Jump ahead.”

So there you have it. Check your emails, folks; you may be a Chosen One.
