Microsoft Says No New XBox This Year

According to Microsoft’s French marketing manager Cedrick Delmas, the new Xbox will not be released in 2012.

Microsoft’s Cedrick Delmas said:

What is certain is that there will be nothing new in 2012. The cycle of the Xbox 360 is by no means complete.

Some cynics may interpret this as: “We’re not done milking every last penny out of the 360.” Not me, of course.

Delmas went on to say:

We are not here to deal with Nintendo and they are not there to fight against other manufacturers. Nintendo has placed itself in a different cycle, they advance at their own pace, successfully as we have seen with the Wii, and now it is their turn to present their innovation.

That almost sounds like Microsoft, out of charity, wants to let the Wii U have its time in the spotlight. An uncharacteristic move from the software giant, given we’re more accustomed to hearing things like the next Xbox may be designed to destroy used games.

That is Microsoft saying the next Xbox just isn’t ready, in a nice way.
