Microsoft Testing 24-Hour Free Games for Xbox One

Microsoft has apparently begun testing out a new program for Xbox One that will give gamers temporary access to digital games for free.

The program was discovered last night by US-based players partaking in the Xbox One console beta. While perusing its digital offerings Reddit user JBurton90 noticed that the game Max: Curse of the Brotherhood had been unlocked as a free download in the Games with Gold section under the label “Free Play Day With Gold.”

Microsoft has yet to offer any official comments on the program. That said, users contacting Xbox Support through Twitter were met with an amusingly surprised response when asked if Free Play Day was “a new thing.”

“Looks like it is actually,” said the company’s Twitter. “We’ll be in touch here shortly.”

While it’s hard to make firm conclusions with so little official information, Free Play Day With Gold looks as though will be an additional perk for Gold subscribers that will sit alongside the current Games With Gold offerings. That said, we’ve reached out to Microsoft and will let you know if any new information surfaces.
