Microsoft Wins Legal Dispute Over Xbox8 Domain Names

Could the next Xbox be named the “Xbox 8?”

Microsoft has won two disputes filed in May with the National Arbitration Forum over a series of Xbox-related domain names owned by a resident of China. The domains, which include XboxPhone.com, XboxTablet.com, XboxLiveTV.com, XboxCompanion.com, Xbox8.us and Xbox8.org, were ordered transferred to Microsoft after two separate panels found the names were identical to the XBOX marks, that the respondent had no rights or legitimate interests in the domains, and that the domains had been registered and are being used in bad faith.

Strangely, no complaint has yet been filed against the owner of Xbox8.com.

Any inferences about what this means are pure speculation, but Microsoft does seem to have gone to great lengths to secure these names, which strikes me as an awful lot of work for a red herring.

What do you think the next Xbox will be named?
