Microsoft Working on Holodeck Design?

A patent filed by Microsoft suggests the tech giant may be working on… a holodeck?

The patent, filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, is for “an interactive computing system configured to provide an immersive display experience.” This system would project images onto all four walls of your living room.

Microsoft describes the invention as:

“An immersive display environment is provided to a human user by projecting a peripheral image onto environmental surfaces around the user. The peripheral images serve as an extension to a primary image displayed on a primary display.”

The kit would include a depth camera and a user tracking device, along with the possibility for 3D headgear.

Whether Microsoft intends to develop this technology or simply patent it for future reselling/licensing is unknown.

Now, the question is… How do you find a room in your house with four bare walls? Wouldn’t you rather the Oculus Rift?

Microsoft my just be looking at the future, its not unusual for people to patent ideas just in case someone else tries to build the real thing then they can come in and steal the royalties claiming it was there idea to have images on your walls, gotta love are screwed up patenting system.
