Midway Claims Halo 3 Popularity Will Help Sell BlackSite

In a recent interview with MCV, a UK publication, a representative from Midway claimed that Halo 3′s popularity would actually help them sell their own sci-fi FPS, BlackSite: Area 51:

“BlackSite will absolutely benefit from the popularity of Halo, and stands a fair chance of hitting number one,” Aidan Minter, European brand manager for the company told MCV.

Don’t really see how Halo 3 would help boost the popularity of a similarly styled FPS being released just a month later; particularly when your core audience will probably be still playing Halo 3 online. And as for hitting number one: number one what? FPS whose title starts with a “B”? Sorry, man, but BioShock’s been out awhile now.

The popularity of Halo 3 grows the genre and draws more consumers to similar games when they have tired of Halo. Blacksite will still be for sale after its release date so even if most Halo 3 owners are not ready for a new game at that time, they may be ready to try Blacksite later.

THats like going from Lord or the Rings to Dragon Wars. May seem similar but they dont attract the same people or quantity.

I though the game looked a bit crap tbh, demo didn’t impress me at all.

I’d take Halo 3 over this anyday.

I got a chance to sit down with Blacksite at E3. I also played the XBL demo, and it does not do justice to the game, imho. Blacksite’s lead designer also worked on Deus Ex. In case you’ve forgotten, that was one of the best shooters EVER. I’d still place it in the top 3.

I think Blacksite will be just as fun, co-op and all.
