Millions of People Were in a Big Hurry To Play Starcraft II

How do you measure a game‘s success? Many would say a million copies, over a game’s entire run, would be a success for most titles. And the standard, I’m sure, is lowered a bit for PC games, because as we all know that medium is dying, right?

Or maybe that assumption is once again proven wrong, as a million copies of Starcraft II were sold all over the world on release day, and another half million were sold on day two. Because if there’s anything we know for sure in this world, it’s that Blizzard fanatics certainly deserve that moniker.

Blizzard also claims that this makes Starcraft II the fastest selling strategy title ever, and who are we to argue with Blizzard? Really, though, I can’t imagine that isn’t true, because the only other strategy game I can think of that launched with this much hype was Tiberian Sun, and there’s no way that came close to hitting these numbers this quickly because that was it didn’t launch everywhere on the same day.

Now we’ll have to wait and see how frontloaded this thing is. Think it can make it to 7 million by the time the year’s out?
