Minecraft 1.2.2 Is Out Now
We recently asked Mojang’s Jens Bergensten if they might consider a more regular schedule of Mincraft updates. Alas, though he admitted they could do a bit better, he also confirmed they don’t plan to establish a regular update schedule. Oh well. Maybe that’s why Minecraft 1.2, released yesterday, took us by surprise. Announced by Mojang on their official site, the latest update comes with lots of goodies. It adds a new jungle biome, plus some ocelots, cats and Iron Golems to run around in it. For you parents out there, you can live vicariously now that villagers will have kids (if the village is big enough), and tame wolves will now have puppies. (awww). That’s a very large amount of blocky cuteness.
But that’s not all. in addition to the somewhat aesthetic tweaks, 1.2 also includes some technical improvements, incuding new AI for mobs, a map height limit of 256 instead of 128, new items and blocks, better functioning double doors, rare drops for mobs, and more. And if that was enough, mere hours later, 1.2 was updated to 1.2.2 with the addition of birches and pine trees. Cool stuff, and it’s an automatic update the next time you log in. And if you still aren’t playing Minecraft, you can get it right here.
