Minecraft 1.3 Coming August 1

Mojang’s Jens Bergensten has announced that Minecraft 1.3 will be released August 1, 2012, with a “release candidate” going live a week prior, which will give server admins and modders a little more time to prepare for the new version of Minecraft.

Included in 1.3 are “Lots and lots of bug fixes and new features,” such as tripwires that allow you to create new traps and contraptions, as well as emeralds, emerald ore and a trading system that makes it possible to buy items from villagers. There will also be desert-specific villages, jungle temples, and the ability to write in books for other players to read.
