Minecraft Has Now Sold Over 54 Million Copies, Mostly on Console

Minecraft has now sold over 54 million copies, and the majority of them were sold on console.

In a tweet, Mojang data analysis guru Patrick Geuder Saga announced the numbers, saying not only that the game of building whatever the hell you please had sold over 54 million copies, but that the majority of those had come on consoles now.

It’s a little surprising to me how well Minecraft has transitioned to consoles. For a game that depends a lot on mods and player-run servers (on the PC), console gamers have taken to it quite readily. I wouldn’t expect this growth to slow down on consoles anytime soon, as the PS4 and Vita versions are coming later this year.
