Minecraft on Xbox 360 Could Get a Few of ‘Best’ PC Mods
The Xbox 360 version of Minecraft has been a breakout success ever since it was ported from the PC, but with one glaring feature missing: mod support. Obviously, the Xbox version of Minecraft can’t be modded, and there are literally thousands of great mods available to PC players.
But some of that goodness may make its way to the Xbox version.
Speaking with Hookshot, 4J Studios’ Paddy Burns noted that the developer, responsible for the Minecraft port, has been looking at trying to “tailor” the best mods from PC to work on Xbox, and possibly make them available in an update.
“The Xbox 360 won’t be able to have the mod system that gives such a variety of community additions to the game on PC, but we’re looking at the elements of these that people seem to be enjoying the most, and deciding how we could tailor those elements into something for Xbox,” Burns said. “The audience for the game on the Xbox is different from the PC version,” Burns added, “Mainly due to the console being in the living room and using controllers rather than a mouse and keyboard, so we need to ensure that whatever we do is right for that audience.
“We’re going to be discussing with Mojang where we go after version 1.2.3,” he said. “Some ideas of taking the game in a different direction from PC having been raised already.”
Meantime, work is continuing on the next update for the Xbox version, v. 1.8.2, which will bring Creative Mode to console players. More PC version features will continue to filter into the Xbox version in later updates, it sounds like.
