Minecraft Overthrows Call of Duty: Black Ops on Xbox Live

According to this week’s Xbox Live activity chart, Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition has been the first game to unseat Call of Duty: Blacks Ops since it launched in November of 2010 — outside of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, of course. The world building game debuted at number three last week, after enjoying an insanely successful launch, and its ability to give even Call of Duty a run for its money is testament to just how popular Mojang’s creation truly is.

Xbox pimp daddy Major Nelson also divulged via Twitter that this may be the very first Xbox Live Arcade title to reach as high as number 2 in the chart. Usually, the most played games on Xbox Live are your typical retail shooters, so it’s pretty remarkable to see a more humble digital offering climb to such giddy heights.

Unsurprisingly, Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition remains the biggest selling XBLA title this week, followed by Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 and The Walking Dead. Great news if you like Minecraft. Inconsequential news — that will be treated as bad — for anybody who hates it.
