Minimum Specs for APB Revealed
Grand Theft Auto Online All Points Bulletin, the online love child of GTA and Saint’s Row with a little Crackdown thrown in for good measure, is an MMO that a lot of folks are anticipating. Wondering if you have the horsepower to run it? Well that question along with a few others are addressed thanks to the recent update to the APB FAQ.
The revealed minimum requirements are pretty reasonable for a low to mid-range gaming PC:
Core 2 Duo 2Ghz or equivalent
2GB RAM (3GB for Vista64 / Windows 7 64)
nVidia GeForce 7800 – 256MB or equivalent
20GB Hard disk space
But these are the baseline specs, not the optimal specs so it stands to reason that the screenshots and videos of APB we’ve seen so far are not taken on a PC with thess anemic stats.
APB claims to be a different sort of MMO but to me this description doesn’t make it sound very different at all from most third-person online action games:
“APB is entirely online and multiplayer however, it’s a unique game unlike other MMOs out there. The game runs on fast, high-quality dedicated servers allowing you to enter cities and engage in a new style of game where your actions bring you into opposition with other players dynamically: there’s no waiting in lobbies. You can encounter thousands of other players over a short period of time. Our dynamic matchmaking allows solo and group play in missions, against – or with – real people, never an AI. We’re still working out how to describe that in a three letter acronym… Suggestions are welcome.”
APB launches June 29th in the US, July 1 in Europe and July 2nd in the UK. You can find videos and more game information at the APB website.
