Lovely day out, I thought to myself as I came home from picking up MLB 08: The Show at lunchtime. As it turns out, standing outside gets me closer to playing baseball with my long distance friends than booting up MLB 08 currently does.
As this eight page thread on the game’s official forums explains – which contains no official word of any kind from even so much as a moderator – users who have recently picked the game up are finding it impossible to access their shiny new game while connected to the Internet. Following the Press Start screen, the game automatically begins trying to download a license agreement… only it never downloads, leaving gamers to stare at their screens while enjoying the soundtrack.
Customer support has been of little to no help to those who have contacted Sony over the matter, with reports on the forums including everything from “a patch is coming” to support reps who are completely unaware of the situation.
Needless to say, this really cripples the game.
We’ve contacted Sony, but have yet to receive a response.
Update: I’ve managed to now connect after an approximate 224 tries. No telling if that’s the magic number of if the issue has been fixed on the server-side, but I’ll be keeping an eye on things.
Update 2: The forums seem to agree; something’s been fixed and all is looking well.
