MMO Coverage is Expanding at GameFront and We Want Your Thoughts

Clockwise from top left: Vindictus, World of Warcraft Planetside 2, Guild Wars 2

Perhaps the fastest expanding genre today is the MMO. Not traditional MMOs like World of Warcraft, though. Games like Blacklight: Retribution, Mechwarrior Online, Vindictus, and Hawken are reshaping our expectations of what an MMO can be, and not just because they are all good examples of how the free-to-play model can be done right. The old standby of fantasy rat killing is losing ground to sci-fi rat killing and even real-life rat killing.

Game Front is stepping up the coverage on all MMOs, and two people are taking the reins: Dan O’Halloran and I. Both of us are formerly of Massively, where we regularly contributed to one of the best MMO sites around. Dan will be covering the more traditional side of the MMO world, with features on games like World of Warcraft, Guild Wars 2, Lord of the Rings Online, and other classic-style games. I’ll be hitting up other, less traditional games like Planetside 2, Wizardry Online, and Shin Megami Tensei: IMAGINE. We also have our eye on upcoming releases Elder Scrolls Online, Neverwinter, Loadout, Path of Exile, and Airmech. Regardless of the MMO, we’ll be doing our best to bring you the highest quality MMO coverage around, from relevant news to features that help you become a better player.

We can’t do this without you, though. Given the huge variety of MMOs out there, we want to know a few things. What MMOs do you want to see more coverage of? What kind of coverage (reviews, features, news) would you like more of? What sort of guides can we provide to make your MMO experience more enjoyable?

Feel free to drop questions and thoughts in the comments. We’ll be reading them!

Two things:

See what you can dig up oin Portalus games taking over Pirates of the Burning Sea.

And the other, I think a lot of gaming sites should employ more into the theoretical side of games, instead of just reviews and news. As in, where should the MMO industry be going? What doesn’t work? What does? discussion forums are fun for that stuff, but needs to be more of that, especially from writers who actually know a thing or two about gaming and they strive to be balanced (such as at Gamefront.)
