MMO Roundup 7/14/2011 — WoW Real ID Party Feature, LOTRO Concept Art, Rift Marriage Proposal, and More

The MMO Roundup is a weekly recurring feature where we bring you all the news from the world of massively multiplayer gaming.

Here’s some of the biggest news in the MMO world this week — and a dash of the smaller news you may find interesting — parceled out by game and delivered in snack-sized chunks:

World of Warcraft

Blizzard has announced that a new Real ID party feature is now available for testing. This feature will allow players to invite any Real ID friends of the same faction to a party, regardless of what realm they play on, then queue up for a 5-player regular or Heroic dungeon.

Battle of the Immortals

After a month of anticipation, Perfect World has launched the the Titan content update. Players will be able to access two new maps, Black Dragon Lair and Giants Kingdom, travel to the new Ancient Beast Island and tame new pets, and ultimately, face off with Kronos, the God of Kings in the new Titan Throne.

ARGO Online

The first official “Great Field War” will take place this Saturday, July 16, at 9 pm PST, in the Shining Desert. During the battle, players from both factions will vie for control of the scarce and vital mineral Earthdium, and the victors will enjoy access to the bountiful Earthdium deposits at the core of the desert as the spoils of war. Participating players will be entered into a raffle for a chance to win a unique item that cannot be found anywhere else in ARGO Online.

Global Agenda

Player appreciation month is still going strong, and Recon gear in the class shop will see a 50% discount on AP purchases for another six days.

The Lord of the Rings Online

Turbine has released a new piece of concept art from the upcoming Rise of Isengard expansion, showcasing Draigoch, one of the most powerful creatures in Middle-earth and the boss in the new 24-player raid coming in the expansion.

A player orchestrated a two-pronged marriage proposal to his girlfriend, taking a knee before her in-game and almost simultaneously doing so in real life. Both events were captured on camera and arranged in a picture-in-picture display.

In news that may be more relevant to you, Trion has introduced the “Summer of Savings,” a subscription deal with up to 40% savings. The offer only lasts throughout July, so be sure to tell your friend soon.

Champions Online

Player housing has come to the superhero MMO in the form of hideouts — superhero secret lairs. Hideouts currently come in four flavors, with more promised: Industrial Cave, Sci-fi Moonbase, Mystic Sanctum, and Mom’s Basement.

City of Heroes

As of Thursday, August 4, 2011, the City of Heroes launcher will no longer be supported. After this date players will only be able to launch the game through the NCsoft Launcher, or through the Steam platform.

On average, players will experience faster downloads and increased usability with the NCsoft Launcher over the City of Heroes launcher. In addition, they’ll also receive the exclusive Wisps aura in-game for downloading and using the NCsoft launcher.

EverQuest 2

Two new Marketplace items have been added:

- The Clan Icereaver Kilt Crate
- Golden Ruby and Platinum Sapphire Rings

Further, two new events will be taking place this week: the Dragon Ring Event and the Wizard Spire event.
