Mod Tools Are Coming To Call of Duty: Black Ops

Via Big Download and we could mention, it seems developers Treyarch decided to respond to the ton of questions hopeful modders were posting with a direct, (mostly) unambiguous answer right on the BlackOps forum:

We plan to open the game up for modding sometime post-launch.”

That is, of course, excellent news. There’s just one catch:

We do not know yet to what extent you will be able to mod the game.

Queue a million people “awwwwww”ing. But, why is… those things?

There are some purely technical issues related to engine and internal tool enhancements that do not easily fit the modtools paradigm. We have looked at it close enough to see that it is non-trivial and we will have to pick it up again post-launch.

Dammit. I’m so hopeful and yet pre-disappointed I don’t know how to feel. The only thing that can save me is some finely-worded corporate boilerplate:

“Right now we are completely focused on finishing the game.”

Whew. All better. But seriously, this is pretty fantastic news, even if a release date for the tools isn’t confirmed. Modders are sometimes treated like real players, but more often they’re simply regarded as well-meaning, but annoying tinkerers who really ought to shut it, and play the game like god intended. It’s nice to know that Treyarch is taking them, and the tools, seriously.

Multiplayer trailer.

I hope black ops. has no modding. It ruined MW2 for all the games who are able to play strait up without modding. I’ve heard lots of people saying “i’m sick of losing to modder’s” I hope they can cancel out rapid fire controllers to.

Guys… there not talking about modded controlers or hacks. Mod tools.. are the ability to add custom content to servers. Like custom maps.. Custom modded matches… like removing Certain perks or all perks… removing certain equipment.. adjust run speeds or damage done. Remove rank system and allow all weapons.. and create a class while in server while choosing class.Gungame match in Black ops is a community mod. Havent use ever heard of pro mod in cod4? Thats the most highly competitive game type in Cod4. Lol stop playing console games and buy PC… no offence but the console players are ruining the freedom that future games are giving you… they are limiting the flexability of future games and removing customization options… and not only are they removing all this but making games more expensive >.<

Lol… and i know of course you guys are going to stand by your console. Little do use know that your being ripped off.. and in turn because your falling for the BS advertisements.. they make money and cauntinue to create horribly coded games.. remove more content from these games.. and now even PC is just another Console port. heh.. nothing can be done at this point though. Its a sin.. the days of gaming Mods are pretty much over. All the companys are just stealing the modders Ideas and removing Modding tools from the community. These companys wont even give credit to the community that made FPS’s the type of experience it is today. Funny how the Consoles complain, complain, instead of just buying the better component. Well you guys got what you want… now everyone has to spend loads of money and have no freedom. But dont get me wrong there will still be hackers and modders.. just only to those who are experienced with coding. Instead of pubicly open. Lol.. and xbox… boy o boy you have to pay a Live fee.. plus you bought a system that is designed to burn out on a set date so you have to buy another. LMFAO. Greedy basterd companys these days >.<
