Modern Warfare 3 Garners $1 Billion in 16 Days, Which is Faster Than Avatar

Complain all you want about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and the rest of the series. It has already made more money than the aggregate total of the worth of your life and the lives of probably everyone you know.

That’s right — Modern Warfare 3 has already made a billion dollars, Activision just said in a press release. It did it in 16 days. You know what took 17 days to make a billion dollar? Avatar. Suck it, James Cameron, Bobby Kotick is likely saying in this fantasy conversation I just imagined.

“Call of Duty is now amongst that rarified group of sustained franchises like “Star Wars”, “Harry Potter”, “Lord of the Rings” and the National Football League (NFL) that attract or engage tens of millions of people every year or every new release,” the press release says. It also rubs salt in the wound by pointing out that while box office revenues are on the decline, gaming revenues (or at least, Call of Duty revenues).

Oh, and that Call of Duty: Elite thing that you and your friends have been making fun of? Yeah, that has more than a million premium subscribers, too. (Although, I wonder how many of those got their free first-year memberships from the Hardened Edition of MW3.)

Go ahead and continue to mock CoD, but statistically speaking, you can’t possibly be smarter than all the people playing MW3. Maybe you’re just bitter that they’re having more fun than you.

Considering I get bored of it and move to the next game just as quickly as any other shooter, I’m gonna go ahead and say yeah: I AM smarter then all those people. And this is the internet, so I can say that with a completely straight face and then curse the lot of you for lining Kotick’s fat ing face with caviar or truffles or burgers made from small African children or whatever.

Yeah well, I don’t actually consider MW3 as selling as much as Avatar, or SW, or HP. MW3 costs about 3 times as much as a movie ticket to Avatar did, which means about 3 times as many people saw Avatar in 17 days that people played MW3 in 16.

Still, that is a lotta people…
