That engine is getting old. The visuals doesn’t look good at all. It seems pretty fun though, but bf3 looks so much better. I truly hope bf3 does better salewise, it deserves it.

it’s not the same engine….how could you tell that from a trailer of mostly cut scenes? they rebuild the engine for modern warfare 3 thank god

Compare this side by side with any BF3 trailer. cod is childs play in comparison.

On May 23, 2011 at 7:17 pm

@Toren
Are you serious dude? they may claim it’s a new engine, but I can tell it’s almost the same exact engine. Just the way soldiers were running gave away the fact that the engine is the same exact engine, but maybe improved just a bit and called something else…

Quoting Bowling:
“… We never – for any game – build a ‘brand new’ engine, but iterate on a solid base… adding what’s needed and innovates it.”

you know why they *never* build a new engine for a game? and wont build a new engine for CoD ESPECIALLY? because they cant out a mediocre Call of Duty title every year then.

As everyone else said on here

BRING ON BF3 Please.

so i like how most of the people that watch mw3 trailers are just people that prefer battle field. everyone has there own opinion, but they generally dont post trailers so everyone that hates it can say how much they hate it and prefer a different game

Oh hey, looks like Bobby Kotick is desperately trying to milk a dead franchise for all its worth.

Enjoy buying a $60 expansion.

At least they went back to infinity and no more broken f’n treyarc.

NerfSword

On May 23, 2011 at 7:50 pm

Eh…. Looks like another copy of the first one, just prettier. Maybe they’ll copy the battlefield series and make destructable/realisic invironments now. Wait that would be copying, just like what they did with the replay and save system from Halo.

LOVIN IT

On May 23, 2011 at 7:55 pm

ok if one more person complains about this game, go yourselves. this looks INSANE, i will admit that cod5 wasnt great and a lot of people complained about black ops, but infinity ward is back. The story for mw2 is resuming and not too soon, the cliffhanger it left off with was too much… i would gladly buy this game twice if i had to, ill probably get the prestige edition so you hates

On May 23, 2011 at 8:03 pm

Serously, as much as I can’t wait for B3, stop ing about a new Cod coming out. Millions of people are still going to buy it, so it’s not a dead series. And don’t hate Kotick because he’s succseful, he’s not some evil criminal mastermind

On May 23, 2011 at 8:05 pm

Why should they change the engine? The game is supposed to run at 60fps and so I’ve seen nothing wrong with the animation. In fact, the game looks great if you take in consideration how fast it runs and that you don’t need a particularly strong pc to run it (with the exception of Black Op’s ridiculous cpu requirement).

Even with an old engine, the game itself is still new. This is because you’ve got new artwork, designs, content and so forth. I don’t remember counter strike being loved for its graphics, why the hell should competitive gamers care about modern warfare’s graphics? MW and battlefield are two different games, stop trying to ”uprade” MW into something it’s not. MW doesn’t need a complex lighting system, it doesn’t need great physics. It needs speed, responsiveness, visibility and a clean art style.

Serously...

People like lovin it are the people that make Live bad. Just cuz you have an opinion doesn’t mean they should “go themselves”. I might not buy MW3 so i don’t have to deal with peeps like that

Anyone who is happy because infinity ward is back should realize that infinity ward really is not infinity ward anymore. More than half of the infinity ward staff left with Zampella and West to go work for EA as Respawn. Leading me to why there are 3 separate studios working on MW3.Also I am only stating a fact the game could be excellent but you can only tweak the same engine for so long.

yeaitskei

On May 23, 2011 at 8:50 pm

battlefield didnt come up with geomod(the correct term for destructible environments) its existed in several much older games, namely red faction 2.
While I love both franchises for separate reasons, BF2 contained so many glitches(at least on my copy) that it was virtually unplayable

“Lol at all the hipsters hating MW3 because “hurr itz s0000 mainstream!!””

That’s not why most people hate it…

No one is talking about hating the game because it’s “mainstream” as you put it. We hate the game because they quit caring about quality and started pushing out garbage slapped together games instead of polished quality products.

On May 23, 2011 at 9:49 pm

Nerfsword, you’re an idiot. Battlefield copied destructible levels from games that came out YEARS before it. Halo stole the replay / save system from games years before also. I’m not defending any games here either. They’re all just rehashes anyway. That includes Battlefield 3

Its not hard to figure out why they are pumping these things out… Because MILLIONS of people are buying them! I bet 90% of you haters bought every single COD game and will buy this one as well. After reading these posts, and not only here, all over the web, about the “targetgroup” of both bf3 and cod-series. To be honest, i enjoy both certain days, bf gives you a big maps, enormous multiplayer, and gives you a “slowish” experience of gaming and lots of ways to “get the objective”, though cod is fast paced, constant action with small(er) maps. I think this has nothing at all to do with the targetgroups at all! As told, feeling for a slowpaced game pick bf, feeling for an “run-and-gun” pick cod. Simple as that. Curious as hell about both releases, bf3 with their new engine, and cod with (hopefully a new engine too) allaround news.

Have a good one, gamers!

This looks ing awesome me thinks. I’ve been a fan of the CoD series since the first one. Battlefield however never really intrigued me, so I find all this arguing about them kinda foolish. CoD is a great game, and like one person said: If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. They’re simply building a story with this one, or at least that’s what I got out of it. Good .

Logsy

On May 24, 2011 at 2:34 am

@Hicks- I think your right.. It seems like every warfare game designer is going for the Michael Bay style of action.. Large scale destruction..

I think both B3 and COD:MW3 will be interesting releases.. I do think that B3 has the better graphics and mechanics going by the trailers.. B3 has a new engine from the ground up, COD is a re-vamped/amended engine (I think it will be a console port). Just like arathor said- it depends on whatever you want to play.. I’m personally get a little tired of the COD series and think that it is starting to get a little stale.. But they have never really tried to change anything- @gmri, it is arguable that the series/franchise has reached a creative ‘death’… Sometimes sales figures aren’t necessarily the proving grounds for great games though (this is kinda an overall statement- not specific to MW3)- various titles have in the past had great sales but not necessarily great games.. I understand the entire, it aint broke don’t fix it argument but people will tire of it eventually and when huge money is involved EA will stick to a formula..

My 2 cents… No flamer returns- if your getting mad reading this kinda thing- keep things in perspective..

Looks alright if not a bit dated. Will be a good single player but hasn’t got a chance against battlefield 3 when it comes to multiplayer.

Although Blackops was Frakking awefull and it still sold loads so i guess hype can beat content

KuNiT

On May 24, 2011 at 5:28 am

Every Battlefield is always suppose to be the “COD Killer” and fails everytime. It won’t be any different then BF3. It will be hyped up to be the ultimate COD Killer and single player will once again be average at best and multiplayer will once again be below average. You can’t compete with the COD series. Oh and there is a reason the entire crew from Infinity Ward got fired, and there is also a reason they weren’t allowed to develop the single player by themselves.

Seriously – Black Ops sucked hard. But this looks really awesome, and so what if they use the same engine? Look what Valve has achieved with just the Source engine from 2004!
Personally I’m just waiting for BF3 though =)

BF3 is going to blow cod out of the ing water!

c4ust1c

On May 24, 2011 at 7:48 am

1st – If it is designed in any way for a console it will suck. The physics, graphics, and the over all dynamics and feel of the game will be quite limited to allow the game to function efficiently on a $400 dollar piece of hardware as opposed to an actual gaming computer.

2nd – Desert Combat and 21CW (PC BF1942 Mods) were the best modern warfare mods ever created. Any subsequent games resembling them i.e. CODMW1 and 2; BF2; Bad Company; and so on dumbed the game down for consoles.

The game dynamics, the skeletal projectile impact points, and the way in which the data is correlated are so flawed it’s phucking sad.

The helicopters and aircraft don’t maneuver anything like they should; they did in DC and 21CW pretty damn accurately; guess I was spoiled by those mods.

3rd – It’s the same engine; all they updated was texture quality and for PC versions it will allow you to allocate 2 processor cores to process the heavy additional physics if you have a quadcore; ie will make heavy use of the new nVidia Physics Engine.

4th – BF3 will be better. Trust me.

@Wade Punkbuster blows; I can’t count how many times I’ve been 455 l2aped by punkbuster because of their fail sauce software and it’s inability to recognize its own updates. In 8 years Steam has never once failed me; and their VAC is incapable of false positives unlike punkbuster.

Seriously, I Love COD, the whole series. But after watching this trailer, it looks like the same game just a different environment. Granted I hate single player games and only play multiplayer online. But this looks like the same old COD, at least with Battlefield, we can tell it is way better than their last BF game. Lets just hope with battlefield the gameplay is better than their last one. I just hope they have a larger playing field in their ZOMBIES, I hate being confined in a building with zombies.

Comprimise

On May 24, 2011 at 10:34 am

Play MW for the online, play BF for the campaign. Although MW2 left off with a sick cliffhanger, I think we can all agree on the fact that 99% of the time spend with the disk in the console is for online play. Who gives a about a better engine if you are spending all your time running around with guns ablazing. Just make new/more maps and the game will be a great success.

Me

On May 24, 2011 at 10:38 am

Wow, another way for Activision to nickel and dime their loyal customers. I’m done with COD. $15 for 4 MP maps with nothing else is just pure greed. And doing it twice is just plain wrong. I will stick with companies who actually treat their customers with some respect (EA, Valve). They just release maps to say thank you for buying our game.

I like that the only defense these COD loving children have is “DURR IT SELLS A LOT DURRR YOU JUST HATE DURRRR!

Like this somehow disproves anything? Look, if you want to keep playing the same game, why not just do that instead of buying the new version of the same game?

Because you dumb kids don’t know what you’re missing out on.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to hop on my 14.4 dial up modem, and play some DOOM 2. Because nothing will ever be better than DOOM 2, hell look how many copies it sold! DUUUUUURRRRRRRRRR

My opinion is that it looks like fun unlike that Black ops Psych thriller on rails nonsense but not expecting a world beater (COD after all) BF3 gets my vote if only for the fact that its gonna be optimized for PC. We haven’t had a game since the original crysis that actually required me to swap out hardware for high settings.

It’s a shame that conversations about video games always seem to degenerate into trash talk and mudslinging.

While I do miss the run and gun fun of COD4, I’m not interested in a company that treats me like trash. I’ll be buying Battlefield 3 and boycotting MW3.

(Rage on me for that if you will COD fanclub, I’m merely exercising my right to take a stand against poor workmanship and greedy corporate decisions. I did the same for many of Ubisoft’s releases because of their DRM decisions and I’ll continue to do so in the future until companies recognize they need to support the consumer, not their pocket books.)
