Modern Warfare 3 Will Have Dedicated Servers, But Only For Unranked Matches

@fourzerotwo (Robert Bowling) declared over the weekend that Modern Warfare 3 will have dedicated servers on PC. Yay, you say. Nay, I say wait a minute. From

Only matchmaking to public games are Ranked (meaning, you have to rank up to unlock weapons to rank on the leaderboards), choosing to play on a Dedicated Server is UnRanked.

So what you’re saying is that nobody’s going to be playing on dedicated servers because they want to rank up and prestige.

He clarifies that all unlocks can be customized on the servers, but still. This is not what people wanted when they asked for dedicated servers. Sigh.

They should have done it Battlefield 2 stile. Give out unranked server files to everyone and rented ranked through trusted server companies. I understand they can’t trust just anyone went the rank data. I hope we get unranked Battlefield 3 server files someday soon. LAN isn’t dead to me.

I don’t know, I think that the fans have been demanding dedicated servers for cod for a few years now, and this ain’t gonna cut it. As a PC player im getting battlefield over cod. Call of duty is dead in the water for PC and will soon be as well for console.

Maybe not on consoles, but BF3 is gonna wipe the floor with MW3 on PC because of this right here. Dedicated servers are a big deal to PC players, regardless of if the idiots making MW3 want to admit it or not.

I loved MW1 because of the dedicated servers, but MW2s lack of dedicated servers killed the game for me. Seems like they have decided to cater to the console gamers and let the PC gamers fall by the wayside.

I’ve purchased all of the CoD games except for MW2 and I will not be purchasing MW3 for the same reason. Activision thinks that every PC gamer is a WoW fan. It’s so disappointing. If it weren’t for the PC these games would not exist.

I second that.

Ohh great… now i have to actually buy a console version to enjoy the game….. ohh wait… i’m not even gonna bother. It’s a shame since the series started on PC and nowadays they don’t even give a damn

I just got this big heaping pile of dog doo because somebody told me it had dedicated servers.

Same old console experience as MW2. I want my money back.

IW is a horrible developer. Will never spend one more dime on their kiddie garbage.

why oh why could they not give the pc community what it wanted .. just greedy corporate companies who are only out for themselves .. give it a few weeks and the DLC will start to grab even more from us .. not that i’ll be buying any more .. they should release the tools for mappers and modders and give us proper dedi servers if they had of done MW3 would blow all other games away

As a clan owner I am extremely disappointed in this. What is the point in owning a clan on MW3 if you can’t have a home where people will play. So we have our clan tag but wheres the pride in owning the server. I am extremely disappointed in COD right now.

Thank you all for some great comments because u guys just saved me sixty bucks plus more with dlc because i will not buy mw3 if multi is like mw2 dont you dummies at activision get it when you dont have dedicated you let the hackers kill us all and there no way to remove them from the server. Why do you have dedicated for black ops. If i buy a new game it should be new and not recycled imo. Wait a minute lets not forget the dirty thing they did to iw ceos no wonder why creativity is out the window how ironic is that creative control now look at it. This used to be the best series until the corporate heads figured out it makes billions. All the true pc gamers out there lets make a stand and not purchase this recycled bs leech game suck you dry

I feel your pain SighFye! After spending the lady seven years developing a clan and making some great long time friends we were all looking forward to getting back to the golden years of COD2. These jerks made us all believe we would be able to build a server that clans could call home only to find out the day of release it was all a sham just to get our hard earned money and then flip us the bird! A sad time has come upon the world of PC gaming and unfortunately this seems to be the beginning if the end of clans :( We once had over two hundred members before all this nonsense started a few years ago, now I feel things are coming to an end. Many members refuse to play this garbage, many play it because they bought it and some are just throwing in the towel on FPS all together. What gratitude they show us after years of us being dedicated to Online gaming and buying their products to treat us like garbage! I washer my money back!!!

And now I can’t connect to ranked servers… what a piece of doodoo. And yes, I did enable the unranked servers option… I can pull up the list of servers, but it hangs trying to connect, then says the server timed out… (ノ ゜Д゜)ノ ~ ┻━━┻

On November 21, 2011 at 6:25 pm

Ok, I’ve made some tests and it seems I can connect only through my ISP router. If I put my wireless router in between, I can’t connect to dedicated servers.

No Dedicated Servers ???? Are you serious? these guys are freakin useless.Cheers guys, saved me from another modern warfare 2 mistake
BF3 gets my $$ this year. and until activision realize pc users need dedicated servers, COD is dead

On December 12, 2011 at 12:37 pm

Why do you care about ranking? What happened to old school CoD2 and CoD4 MW players? If it was up to me there wouldn’t be any ranks, levels, perks, helicopters or w/e. Everyone equal at all times, pure skill only.

Okay I could get over perks, helicopters and stuff but only on public servers and only for fun. Public servers are supposed to be there for having fun and training for real ClanBase or some other league matches.

Now you’re bothered that when playing clan wars or CB matches you won’t level up? Is this CoD or WoW?

Unfortunately for all of us PC gamers Activision has an obvious loyalty to Xbox. The lack of dedicated servers is a business move to encourage console sales. When your PC can’t handle a game you upgrade it; this leads to sales for Gigabyte, Nvidia, etc. When your Xbox breaks down you get another one, Microsoft wins, when your CD is too damaged to play anymore you buy another copy, Activision wins. Not to mention us PC users avoiding LIVE subscriptions.

Once you install a game and register it to some type of cloud system, like Steam for instance, you have that single copy of that game for life and beyond.

Perhaps I’m a bit of cynic but I believe that they have the right idea, from a business standpoint. Do I like it? No. Unfortunately I have to live with it. Call of Duty 1 and 2 are 2 of my favorite games of all time and unfortunately I had to stop there at the franchise because of decisions like these.
