Infestus initial beta is here! After roughly 2 long years, it is finally here. 2 long years? What? Yep, I've keep it in a very small circle, it started out as an experiment, trying to make a source engine based mmo-rpg, turns out it worked out in the end! (and no you don't need any additional account for login stuff by the way... Just be connected to Steam!)
Infestus has been a longtime project for me, I have kept it in the dark for roughly 2-3 years. It all started as an experiment, an experiment gone right!
Unfortunately the current version has quite a bit of placeholders, credits have been provided in the infestus/custom/ folder if you're curious to know of their origins!
If you want to help me out with models, animations and what not, I'd really appreciate it.
I'm hoping to replace most of the placeholders as time passes.
Install instructions: (this will not be your regular sourcemod install so please just read this, for your own good!)
Extract the infestus folder anywhere but Steam! Don't put it under steamapps, steamapps/common, steamapps/sourcemods!
The content provided here is the same as the Steam version, the Steam version is currently not public, only for devs pretty much.
So when the game goes public, you'll already have most of the stuff ready! (when it goes public you can just move the infestus folder into steamapps/common/)
Launch the game by double-clicking on : infestus.exe inside the infestus folder.
TROUBLESHOOTING: (FIRST MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE SDK 2013 MULTIPLAYER FULLY INSTALLED)
If you get the error:
"MSVCP100.dll Missing" then download the C++ 2010 redistributables, you can find them in the redist folder : _CommonRedist/vcredist/2010/ - install both the 32-bit and 64-bit, (only install 64-bit if you actually have a 64-bit OS!)
Missing .NET 4.0? You can download this in the redist folder as well : _CommonRedist/DotNet/4.0/ try to launch the .cmd/.bat file, if it fails, try the dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe!
Unable to join any servers? Do you get Steam Beta must be running blabla...?
If so, create a custom shortcut for Infestus in Steam, basically make it point to the hl2.exe file found in the infestus folder.
In target make it look like, for example: "D:\Games\Infestus\hl2.exe" -steam -game infestus
Now launch it through Steam, Steam overlay should now activate and say that you're playing SDK 2013 Multiplayer, and you should
be able to join any active servers.
Is your UI / HUD / VGUI glitchy? Restart the mod, especially if you changed any graphical settings.
If you have any other questions, or just fancy sharing your adventure, feel free to join the official Infestus discord: Discord.gg
