I'm curious, why is it so hard to get "The Beak" in the game? Is it a very special item?

As of 2.2 it's not hard to get and it's relatively not so profitable as it used to be.

Is there some sort of money making scheme I haven't found in-game yet cus i come back to base with stacks of loot and sell all the stuff i don't need and don't even make enough to feed myself. It's getting pretty savage cus I'm trying to save up for a repair kit since i haven't found any yet and I'm gradually starving to death whilst my gear just rots away?

You will find the more you play and try (and adjust) you discover nearly infinite ways to make money. It's hard for me to have less than a half million rubles in my pocket before I reach Pripyat the first time. Happy Hunting Stalker!

There are some fantastic tips below from others, but I just wanted to point out one particular activity that allowed me to make money in the very early stages of playing 2.2 with the Dark Road start, simply by selling dismantled weapons (hit with my hammer). I actually found that easy, which overcame some of the misery of surviving. That's what the game is all about about... Struggling to survive but it's incredibly rewarding to progress through the game.

Its actually very simple , even in MISERY - in absolute beginning , "latch" yourself onto the groups that go around and be quick and observant to position yourself properly when mutants attack . As mutants , bandits and zombies die , be quick to pick up any loot behind. As soon as possible , obtain a hunters kit that will give you even more mutant parts and you wont need to repair your knife anymore . You can hunt crows for their beaks and brew them for powerful effects . You need to be careful about what you buy to eat in beginning , plan immediately - best RU/kcal ratio is to buy moldy meat as primary food and some breadcrumbs when possible as addition . A bit later when you acquire lighter you can expand it with cooked mutant meats - but I found it much better just to sell cooked meats and buy clean food . You will get a lot of income from mutant hunting , that will be your primary income source in the beginning , also you will get some free goodies around in hidden stashes if youre observant and if you like to explore .

Overall , the point is to acquire a good armor and outfit to have better chances in encounters - Sunrise is good for that in beginning . All worn , corroded or lower quality weapons you can dismantle and get weapon parts and scrap which you can either use to repair chosen weapon or simply to sell it for RUs . I found its much better to dismantle , then sell parts , then to sell whole weapons to Beard . Use Medic in Skadovsk to heal when under or around 30 % health left , anything above 50 % buy basic medkit . The real treasure chest opens lately , when you have SEVA and SSP-99 and can go artefact hunting . Some mutant pelts can give boost in certain fields . It is also very good and wise to put steel or kevlar plates as soon as possible .

There is also one exploit with backpacks , I wont say what you need to do , but you can actually get a good money that way ... experiment , and experiment more , and youll find it ;)

It also depends on who you sell to: heavy weapon scrap, light weapon scrap, military items, technological items, ammo, weapon attachments(silencers, scopes, grenade launchers), and weapons/outfits in good condition sell better to owl; food, mutant parts, weapons/outfits in bad condition, large weapon parts, small weapon parts, artifacts, artifacts detectors, artifact containers, items that go into artifacts slots such as camelbacks, frames, etc sell better with beard. Medicine sell better with the medic and beard. At the beggining you shouldnt use any kind of equipment that requires maintainment, you should go with no outfit/helmet and use only shotguns and pistols. How much money do you make a day?

Grab a cheap shotgun, some buckshots and go hunt boars and fleshes; buckshot is not that expensive, and you can make some nice profit out of selling meats and hides.
If you can, grab a multi fuel stove and a jerrycan, then cook the meat, it will keep you nice and fed, and cooked meat has quite a higher value compared to raw one.
Look around for stashes, those are not too hard to find, in misery every bit helps.
Try not to spend money on repair kits; instead, try to dismantle other weapons and armor to repair yours.
Try to play with an opportunistic approach, like a carrion bird; look for conflicts between factions or stalkers vs mutants, and once everything settles down, make a run for it and loot as much bodies as you can.

      Good luck mate!
