More Civilization Coming Next Year

civilizationboxart.jpg2K, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, has just announced Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution for next generation consoles Spring 2008. The game is going to be developed by Firaxis Games, the developer of 13 other Sid Meier titles since 1997. Sid Meier is creator of the classic video games Pirates! (1987) and Civilization (1991), a pioneering app in turn-based strategy games.

Last year’s Civilization IV earned the Gamespy and GameSpot 2005 Game of the Year.

Revolution will be Sid Meier’s first game for next-gen consoles. He says it’s “the game I’ve always wanted to make,” going on to add, “We are excited to take advantage of the power of next generation consoles and the ingenuity of handhelds, to create a great and unique strategy game for newcomers to the series….”

Features inclue: 16 civilizations; numerous famous historical leaders; accessible maps and streamlined time scale for short games. And, the position of ruler of the world can be settled online, just like in real life.
