MS Points Not Required For Windows 8

Finally, it appears one of the more tedious things about trying to do anything other than play games o your Xbox is coming to an end. Via The Verge comes the happy news that the infuriatingly imprecise and inconvenient Microsoft Points are being phased out for Windows 8 in favor of straight up currency transactions.

It seems digital content can now be purchased using real money, instead of MS points. So far it only affects Windows 8 beta transactions, but considering a report from earlier this year which held that they’ll be going away for all formats, it seems only a matter of time before we’re finally free of these cumbersome, silly things. We’ll see if this change comes to XBLA any time soon however. Presumably, Microsoft will replace them without something even more inconvenient.
