The Garage Ate My Car in Grand Theft Auto 5
Gangsters, cops, other players… there are plenty of pilexated people in Los Santos trying to take what’s yours.
There are also unseen dangers in Grand Theft Auto 5 that can make your hard-earned loot disappear in a blink, succubuses of success you don’t see coming until it’s too late. Rockstar has put a name on one such horror, and it’s to be avoided at all costs: Car Garage.
Yes, Safe Houses aren’t so safe anymore. At least not for your shiny new, ill-gotten luxury automobile. According to a post from Rockstar Support (as pointed out by Eurogamer), vehicle upgrades and even entire cars altogether are disappearing in GTA 5, and the main culprit is your garage. From Rockstar:
We have received some reports about problems with cars and garages, particularly after upgrading and then completing a mission, and are looking into this now. Unfortunately, we do not currently have a workaround to recover a car if it is missing. If you would like to receive an automatic email notification as soon as there is more information, please log into the Support Site and click Subscribe at the top of this page. Also please note that vehicles saves in the garage of one safehouse (Franklin’s Aunt’s) may not show up in the garage of a different safehouse (Franklin’s Vinewood Hills).
Rockstar says it is now working to root out and squash the bug, but in the meantime “please try to avoid parking a car in a garage, driving one already in a garage, or getting in a default vehicle, when playing as a character other than the one with your upgrades.”
Our own Ross Lincoln encountered some slight performance issues in his Grand Theft Auto 5 review, but nothing like having his vehicle stolen. Hopefully these are the types of issues Rockstar will have cleared up by the time Grand Theft Auto 5 makes its way to PC… eventually.
