NASA’s Moonbase Alpha Beta Key Giveaway

astronaut

Who hasn’t thought at least once of how cool it would be to become an astronaut? For those of us who either too old or too lazy to do it for real, NASA is about to release Moonbase Alpha.

Moonbase Alpha puts you in the shoes of an astronaut on the moon in the year 2025. You’ll be tasked with what NASA calls, “Realistic NASA exploration scenarios,” within a game built on Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 3.

Slated to release July 6th, Moonbase Alpha is now in closed beta testing. FileFront has been lucky to procure a few keys to give away to our loyal readers. So, if you want to see exactly how you’d fare on the harsh atmosphere of the moon, hit the jump for instructions on how to enter.

All you need to do to grab your beta key is add a comment as described below. We’ll be selecting winners on Thursday, so all entries must be in by 11:59 PM Wednesday night.

Simply jump into our comments section below and tell us about the Moon Base YOU would build. Does it have lasers? Are there zombies? The most original (and most amusing) entries will receive beta keys to try out NASA’s Moonbase Alpha, so get cracking!

NOTE: Please make sure your comment’s email address field is correct, so we can contact you if you receive a beta key!

Finally a chance to win a key without being on Facebook or Twitter.

The Moonbase I’d build would be a realistic, survival oriented base of operations, where I’d start exploring the moon surface, gather information and…

Wait, that is not original or amusing… :(

I’d really like to try terraforming moon with a base though, some glass cupolas, some nitrogen and oxygen emitters to get a basic atmosphere going, increasing heat, somehow increasing gravity to hold the atmosphere…wait still not original or amusing…

I can’t do that! I wanna try the game for the scientific aspect, not aliens or first person shooting. :(

Wait. I got an idea. I’m going to set up fake moon landing pictures and see if the physics of the game (sunlight reflection on the moon surface, parallel shadows of objects, dust kicking up etc.) all are correctly modeled or if the game PROOFS, that there were no moon landings :D Yea something like that…uh.

Wasn’t that a Mythbusters episode?

UsF

Yea Mythbusters dedicated some show to proof the most public myths about the non existence of the moon landing as wrong including footprints on non humid dust in a vacuum, flapping flags and so on.

I would blackmail the governments of the world with the threat of using my moon base to spell out naughty words unless they paid me one miiilllion dollars. (Cue evil laugh)

Will be interesting to see how they handle the flight physics and see what educational value this may have for kids. At the very least, maybe it will build some support for NASA missions in general.

As for what I’d create. I would create a giant lighting array able to light up in the shape of any company logo and sell advertising time. Imagine the AT&T logo lit up in the night sky as big as the moon. Big bucks. Would make superbowl ads cheap in comparison.

LAVA MOAT! There would most definitely be a large river of lava flowing around my moonbase (which would be entirely transparent, as if to say, “You want some of the cool stuff in here? Too bad, have some lava instead!”. The lava would, of course, be protecting me from sexy, female, vampire, aliens from the core. Would i be able to get around the lava? You bet your sweet lava-proof spacesuit i can! Wait a second… What’s in that lava?! Oh, sweet lord! Its the cure to being a vampire alien. That leaves only two adjectives: Sexy, female. Sign me up!

You guys can only come hang out on Thursdays though, sorry.

I would make a moon base like UNSPACY on macross and robotech. I would have a large assortment of veritech fighters and ground assault robots.I would have a guest singer like minmei come sing every month for troop support. I would want an AI system like Sharon Apple installed to run the security. The moon base would be home to many famous squadrons such as wolf & skull squadrons. The research department of the moon base speacializes in new fold technology.

I would built a huge disco with a glass roof, so that every night on earth you’d see those bright lights dancing on the moon.

They’d come for the low Gravity dancing and stay because of the hot moon chicks, hell yeah!

It is a bit late but i would make a normal moonbase with maybe a rocket lauch pad yes and glass cupolas and so on
this base would be the center of science on the moon . i would make a “city of bases” just for fun
