Nearly 300,000 Gamers Simultaenously Playing Skyrim on Steam

287,411.

That was the peak number of gamers playing Skyrim on Steam today. Compare that to the runner-up, the 86,832 gamers playing Modern Warfare 3′s multiplayer mode, and the difference is staggering. Even if you factor in the 38,277 gamers on MW3′s singleplayer, Skyrim’s numbers more than double Activision’s giant.

Numbers like these would explain the bounty of PC gamers that have come to gripe about Skyrim’s consolized features. However, the PC version’s shortcomings don’t seem to have hurt the game too badly, given these numbers — which don’t even factor in gamers who aren’t playing on Steam.

As a PC gamer, Skyrim offered me a poor first impression, but I’m sticking with the game. Have any of you been so put off by the consolization that you refuse to play, or are you giving Bethesda a chance to redeem itself?

Wow that has to be some-sort of record set.

For MW3 supposedly selling 6 million copies the first day we’ve never seen close to 300,000 players, SP or MP at any given time, and its a freaking Steam works game. Make you wonder.

I don’t even think TF2 when it went free got that high. Nope, under 110000 only.

Most everything I look at these days.

“Or are you giving Bethesda a chance to redeem itself?”

Never could get into the Oblivion grind, but its nice to see so many people like Skyrim.

I use my Logitech g13 gameboard. I don’t have a lot of trouble with the UI. When my hands get tired or I want to lay down, I switch to the XBOX 360 controller for PC. Only issue I had was when creating a character, so next time, I will use the controller for that.

The UI didn’t make me stop playing Oblivion and it darn sure won’t make me stop playing this vastly superior game.
